This is just to advise that I am receiving an extraordinary amount of spam email that appears to be coming from various addresses within the BNO web site and I am suggesting that you never open any attachments in these emails if you are receiving them, too. Specifically, these emails appear to be warning that your email accounts are or will be closed or suspended in some form. Rest assured, I have neither the ability nor the desire to ever do this. It's technically impossible for me to do this, as well. These emails are not from me, nor are they from this web site. To be more succinct, this web site only produces emails that contain complete messages from our bulletin board system. There are never any attachments for you to open on bulletin board messages. So, obviously, there are certain entities out there who are harvesting email addresses from all over the internet - and your email address is not completely immune on any bulletin board - and sending spam out to you. Rest assured, I personally do not have the ability to send you an email from any address@busnut.com from any computer in my system. Any reply I send out will have my own personal email address on it. Fair warning: Please never open any attachments from email that appears to come from BNO including any addresses ending in @busnut.com Please accept my apology for any inconvenience this spam attack may be causing. Ian We know you wouldn't send out useless junk. Unfortunately some low lifes have nothing else to do with their time. Spam is a nation wide problem. Thank goodness for spam filters. Bill |

If I didn't get "Paypal Account Suspended" or "Ebay Question" stating "I pay you now you send to me ???? or I bad feedback"...I'd have no amusement. Somehow Yahoo files it all in a bulkmail folder which I delete en masse. If you poke around the `net, you'll get all sorts of accounts suspended, banking account (nonexistant) blocked and other spam, phishing, and pharming crap. Some of the spam is right creative. Last night the MAK board was, for a few minutes, advertising Tramadol and mail order Vicodin. Spam is just part of the net today. I don't know how internet newbies keep from getting into all sorts of mischief. Best, JR |

Ian, Aren't those wonderful? Typically, they're being sent from [something]@yourdomain.com , to [you]@yourdomain.com, so it's more than likely unless someone else has a @busnut.com email address, they won't get them. But, the warnings still apply, and people can always be reminded again. On a fairly regular basis, I'll end up fixing a home computer where someone will have clicked on an executable attachment that was something bad, even though they should have known better. On my own mail server, we automatically drop any message with an executable attachment (i.e., anything to may possibly have a virus). Check into "MailScanner" at http://mailscanner.info. It's not terribly hard to set up, but will take an hour or two the first time you try it. The editor mail for my news site gets forwarded to myself and my other editor. He called me a couple days ago, because a couple PayPal messages slipped through. We use PayPal for a few limited purposes. He was concerned, because these looked legitimate, and normally they're filtered away. The better the tools we use to filter bad things, the trickier the bad guys get. It's a constant war that will never be won. |

JWS, 1,500 emails daily is what I'm getting right now. Smile of the day: I own a web site called www.golf-durham.com and there are no email accounts on it at all. It was only a matter of time, but someone used an @golf-durham.com address to send me an email at my @busnut.com address, last week. Go figure! Ian www.busnut.com |
