Would like to know people's experience on having a campground membership...good or bad. I see a lot of them being offered. Anyone better than the others? Thanks

I did the Passport America club and now wish I hadn't wasted the money. The rates listed in their guide is subjective. I have called the places and the rate is their 'base rate' only includes two people. I have 4 children, so everytime it's an extra $8 or $12 per night. It's not such a great deal then...

If you are traveling with just two people, it seems like a good deal. The parks we stayed in were fine and worked out great with our bus. They just don't take a family approach to their pricing...

Hope this helps...

It is fairly common for campgrounds/resorts to charge for more than two people. I bet if you called the same campground and just wanted a site with no membership they may charge you for more than two.

Or, maybe they only charge for extra people if you have the membership.

I know it's common...however, it should be listed in the fees. Some places charge per vehicle, some are 4 people, some are only 2 people. I'm fine with that. I just would like to have all the information in order to make my decision. I don't like the "oh by the way, it's an extra 3 bucks per person over two" approach to things.

I have looked at the Passport America and do not think it is such a good deal. Most campgrounds that take this program limt the number of days or the days of the week and most charge extra for more than two people. On top of that the discount is not that great to start with. I haven't looked very closely at other programs.

I have used PassPort America for three years and have been very satisfied. Most of them tell you in the book if extra for more than 2 people. Some of them restrict the stay to one or two days or a certain number of spots. All that I have dealt with were one half price and some were for two weeks. Remember they are trying to have a full campground as costs are the same no matter how full the campground is.
