Due to health reasons I'm unable to shift my bus.I want to convert over to an automatic transmission so I can keep my bus.Does anyone know of a reputable shop in the midwest region that can do these conversions.Thanks for any info

Converting a GMC from manual to an auto is not difficult. There are some other parts required. The trans are easily available. The work to change to auto is as easy as changine the engine. I did a repower and engine change at my shop with basic tools. The most important task is making a plan and knowing what to expect. My hange was out with an 8V71 and 4 speed and into bus a 6V92TA and Allison auto trans V730.. Frank

Nimco in New Jersey has V730 trans conversion kits and mostly everything you would need; shifter, flywheel,cooler, and lines etc. Check out their web site. There is information available to show what needs to be done to make the change, I beleive, here on this site. As far as the conversion work, you might find a mechanic at a bus company that has converted some of the 4905's over in the past, if their company owned some, and would be willing to do the work on the side or be willing to help.

In my "62" I used a VS2-8 and 5:55 rear gear set and have a perfect 3 speed>>>Dan
