Had something crazy happen today and a bit confusing. I was sitting in drivers seat at fast idle at my campsite when suddently the fast idle kicked off. since I know the fast idle has a switch on the hand brake I checked it. that switch will not allow the fast idle to work unless the hand brake is set. my buddy starting playing with the switch which is located on the compartment under the drivers window. then something really weird happened. the fast idle came back but the oil pressure jumped to 80 and the fast idle kicked off again. when I relesed the hand brake, the fast idle kicked off as it should but the oil pressure dropped to about 20..usually stays at about 40 at normal idle...1000 rpm...is the fast idle safety switch on the hand brake somehow tied to the oil pressure switch:...any clues as to why the fast idle would just kick off? I know this is confusing but would appreciate any help...thanx |

could be a poor connection in the wiring' especially if the two share power or grounds. |

Jim, I side with John, definitely a loose connection, either on the power to the oil pressure gauge and the fast idle switch, or a loose ground in the engine room. Do you have a mechanical oil pressure gauge in the engine room to check against the electric on the dash? (High resistance in a gauge circuit=low readings.) |

James - Normal low idle speed on the 4106 should be 550 - 600 rpm, and fast idle should be 900 - 1000. If you're low idle is 1000, you need to do some troubleshooting to see if the tach's accurate, or if the engine's actually set up that high. If it is, then it needs to be reset. Low idle oil pressure, using 40wt oil, can be as low as 5 psi, with psi readings in the 35 - 65 range at 1500. HTH. . .
