For the busnuts that put slideouts in your buses would you do it again? My wife and me looked at a fellow busnuts eagle last week with a 10ft slideout she loved it I liked the added space. Now she really wants one and I'm leaning rowards one also. But here is the problem there is noway that I would ever think of doing one myself. The local converter that is doing our roof raise and new caps said he would and could do it but somewhere in the $2000 a foot range. I would love to have one so I am asking everyone for your input. For everyones knowledge We just purchased a 1989 NJT for 10,000 already striped ready to start conversion. Our RTS is still going strong so we have a bus to use for dragboat racing seasons until the other one is done. Thanks Everyone |

Would not have one without a slide, have two in my 89 Prevost and they add almost 25% to the floor place when out. Sorry, but not putting them in a Prevost or MCI is a Myth. One only needs to a add proper diagonal bracing. This may start an arguement as slides usually do, but I have the numbers and will share if anyone wants them. And another myth is they will only add lots of maintenance, this goes back to the beginning days of slideouts and bad installs. Ray D |

I have a very hard time with the idea of cutting big holes in the side of any bus. |

Hey John, I was scared as hell when I cut 13' from the front and 7' from the back of my truss, but it works and it is not for the person not willing to do the research and develop the skills. But it sure makes you feel good when it is done and works. Ray D |

I just listed a slide-out power unit on the Flea Market. We will be home from our trip next Sunday. Jack PS: I decided to NOT try to install a sllide-out in our MC-8. (Message edited by JackConrad on November 06, 2006) (Message edited by JackConrad on November 06, 2006) |

You can't install a slide out in any bus, It will break in half while driving down the road. It will leak. Your bus will fall over on it's side because of all the excess weight. Slideouts cause global warming & deplete the ozone layer. LOL ROTFLMAO What are YOUR needs & intended uses of this coach? If I was going to be parked for extended periods in the same spot, I'd like the extra room inside. But I plan on traveling with lots of nap stops in parking lots & rest areas where extending the slide would be a problem, in this case a retracted slide would detract from the useable space inside. Also, I'm trying to minimize future maintence on my bus & that means simple, & as few moving parts as possible. It is these reasons why I choose to not have a slide. Only you know how you want to use your coach. If you decide to have one installed, know this - It is not the same as adding a window or changing the filters. It must be done properly or you may loose the use of your coach. Choose your builder wisely. Good luck |

Once the "Global Warming" subsides, check out the 102A2 that is posted on the Sawyers Bus Sales site. I believe Va Coach and Sawyers work together on these projects. In any event, they install big slideouts in MCIs and Eagles. Web address: http://www.sawyersbussales.com/eagle.shtml The website has an Eagle shown also...but the first pix is of a slide in an MCI 102A2. I've got a pix of an Eagle with two slides. Let me know if interested and I'll find it and post. I've met the guy that bought this coach, but he's sorta disappeared from sight since last spring. The coach was externally completed, but the interior was in progress. Nice looking item. Be interested in knowing what the status may be on this bus? Best, JR (Message edited by njt5047 on November 06, 2006) |

I don't have a slideout and I wouldn't do it again. I have big windows, don't need the space, don't need to spend the $ having it done, way above my head to do it myself. |

Darren, The best thing you can buy is the "Slide out rooms" book from Dave Galey, a very good book. I had an Engineer friend run his numbers and he agreed with them all, I have these numbers also. His book does not specifically mention MCI or Prevost by name, but on page 28 of his book he refers to the coach designed as a "monocoque structure" (bingo-MCI & Prevost). I even talked with Dave and he said that is exactly what he meant by that term. The mechanisms for slides is hard to buy as the factories will not deal with backyard converters and you can't blame them in this day of go get yourself a lawyer for everything, so you need to look at surplus places. I built mine myself and got the other parts I needed from Northwest RV surplus in Oregon(all HWH). I have pictures of what I built, email me and I will send them for you. If anyone needs any measurements or any other info, I will be glad to share, as I have spent many hours of research and could not be happier with the results I got. The slides are both run by hydraulics, but before I hooked the cylinders up, I could push both in and out by hand. I would also be interested if anyone knows of a bus that had slides put in and actually had a failure of the structure, I have asked for this before and received none, so maybe we have a myth here also. Happy slideouts, Ray D |
