How much space do we need to build around this generator for cooling purposes? Can it be an air tight box with an auxillary fan or what? We are pulling the 7.5 diesel generator out of our RTS to put in our new baby, an Eagle 20. We have had cooling problems with the 7.5 generator. As that it is pretty @$#% hard to get the radiator above the generator. We had this other gas 6.5 generator just lying about. Any and all brilliant or not so brilliant ideas, comments will be much appreciated. |

the radiator doesn't need to be above the object you are cooling, you just need a way for the air to escape the system. check and see if you have some kind of air bleeder screw in the system at the highest point. if you do, you can go to any wrecking yard and pick up an expansion tank for very little dollars, and then plumb the bleeder screw to your expansion tank. last time i had to do this, we put in a 2" high, 12" wide air intake slot in the side of the rig, right behind it, and even with the bottom of the slot, is a mazda rx7 radiator, with the factory electric fans on it. if you enclose the sides, all air the fans pull has to come in through the slot, and through the radiator. in the engine compartment is a big dryer vent style vent with a door flap, so the air can get out of the gen compartment, and an expansion tank to fill the coolant for the gen. just an idea, but can you plumb the generator cooling system into the big one for the bus engine? -dd |
