Greetings, A couple of years ago our local newpaper had an article about a couple (full time RVers) that host campgrounds year round. North in the summer and South in the winter. Altough they were from New England and still had a house there, they were registered as residents in either No. or So. Dakota. Can anyone shed some light on the subject of where to claim residence, I assume for the tax benefits? Tks, Dennis |

Register to Vote. Convicted felon? Can't vote? Get a P.O. box and get a drivers license. Pay your Fed Income Taxes from the P.O. box. Become gainfully employed. Any or all of the above will suffice. ...JJ |

Addendum to prior post: I fulltime,(my banker says I'm a Gypsy)and I don't own property in my home state of Ohio.(but I do in Florida) I have an Ohio Drivers License and Vehicle Registration, with motorcycle endorsement. Florida Concealed Weapons Permit, Federal Pilots License, Belizean Passport, and a British Work Permit( Green Card?) It's a crazy world we live in. Just keeping up with the paperwork runs me ragged sometimes. Oregon seems to be a popular place to register your rig, and you don't even have to be a resident. Texas is the same way. Check with Escapees Club for more info. Cheers...JJ |

Well, this just got interesting! How did you get a Belizean passport?!?! And how did you get a British work permit? I couldn't even get a job flipping burgers in England . . . Scott |

Oregon has got much stricter on registering vehicles and the mail forwarding service you must use also has had some major changes. I had mine registered there in the early 90's. I had some trouble just now trying to move my vehicle registration from Florida to West Virginia. They could not find Eagle as a motorhome manufacturer, so could not determine book value. I told the lady I thought it was about $3,000 and she said that would be good. At 6% sales tax, the current value is very important to them. Please, no offers to buy!! If you register in Florida, you must obtain no fault insurance. Richard |

Not so , on my USAA policy , we have the option of not having NO Fault. I dont mind purchasing insurance for my self , but I put my foot down on treating an Illegal to an insurance policy at my expense. The bus also has none , by request, and its insured with a different carrier , USAA got way out of line on pricing. FAST FRED |

Dennis, You need to do some more homework on state residency. Besides the coach, there's state income tax, personal property tax, etc. Many of the professional organizations (USAA, TROA and the like) publish a detailed state by state comparison for retirees. All of these states ain't necessarily what they appear to be. Now Alaska! that's another story. Good Luck, Joe |

Try SKP's. I think they have a site on e-groups. It's a camping club. If you were U.S. Military, that would red-flag a permit. Belizean Passport? Lots of cash. The work permit? Electrical Suprintendent with Pullman-Kellog Construcion Ltd., as a sub-contractor to British Petroleum on a contract in the Atlas Mountains of North Africa. On that contract I had a U.S. Passport, Int'l Driving Permit issued in Ohio, a British work permit, and an Algerian Visa! See I told you it's crazy! Nasty Place too, eh what? Cheers...JJ |

Florida, no state income tax and, once you have paid the sales tax, less than $50 a year covers the tag. There are no other taxes on an RV here unless it is permanently rooted with the wheels off. |

Hey Fast Fred, I like your style! I feel the same way about furnishing insurance for an illegal, mainly because most of them we've seen only seem to pay the bills they can't escape. I can see that you've done a little digging into the insurance issue. We've got State Farm and the only problem we've run into so far is they require the insurance agent to be licensed in the state that the coach is stored in. Tom Caffrey PD4106-2576 |
