My 84 MCI 9,6/92 ta wouldn't crank this am. It has never done this! I changed the oil last week and drove around some. I checked oil and added another gallon 7.Thinking low oil shut down. Added more fuel. WD 40 in intake. Small shot either in capsule chamber. Still no go. I will try again later.
PS battery up and turns over fast.

well,it wasn't cold in lake whitney last night, you don't say wheather your engine is electronic or not,if you have a non-electronic engine, you are not getting fuel, if you have an electronic engine, somebody else will have to help you,

It's non electronic with racor fuel filter. How do I prime the fuel system? I figured I could squirt wd 40 in intake and it would start momentarily and start drawing fuel, but not so. Maybe I will check the fuel punp operation in the front bay.

I have an mc9 as well and had a similar problem . I found a small air cylinder over the intake that was sticking and the engine would crank but would not turn over . I pushed on the extended part of the cylinder rod and the cylinder closed after it closed the engine started first touch of the key might want to look there. I still every once in a while have to coax the cylinder.I think it is called an engine stop cylinder. If this is not clear let me know and i will take a picture and send it to you

Does the engine sound 'normal' when you crank it? The reason I ask is that I had a similar problem with my MC-8 with 8V71. When I cranked it, it sounded odd, almost like it was straining. It turned out to be just what JR suggested you check in the above poste... the emergency shutdown.

The non-electronic diesel engine is SO neat, because it's so simple,If it dies...it's out of fuel.period....there are no points,no plugs,no coil,no spark plug wires, no computer, give it fuel/air & spin it & it will run till it runs out of fuel.

The 6V92's don't have an emergency shut down.

How should I prime the fuel system with the racor fuel filter in the right rear compartment door? Could I just introduce some wd 40 into the intake and hope it kicks off?

My 8v71 shut down last week out of nowhere...one moment it was running, next it wasn't. It turned out to be the shaft that drives the blower, which in turn drives the fuel pump. New shaft and some gaskets and we were back in business. Runs great now...

If the engine is turning over and there is fuel in the lines, you may want to check the blower operation if it is similar to the 8v71 in operation...

The fuel pump is not self priming. The complete fuel system must be full.
Search the archives for priming. There have been hundreds of posts over the years as to how to do it.

one simple, way,is to go to advance auto parts & buy a cheap 12 volt fuel pump (20.00 )& mount it as close as you can to your fuel tank, handy for YEARS to come.that works if you have 12 volt available.if you have a electric start generator, you can get 12 there

Probably would not hurt a 12 volt pump to run it on 24 volts for a few minutes. It does not to run continously.

Got her going- I guess I was out of fuel! It had just hit reserve on the guage and I guess the tube has been shortened. I always figured I had 70 more miles when it first hits reserve. Not so. I first hooked up a line to the bottom of the racor filter canister and opened the valve and put some air to it and primed the line. It cranked up but died. Then out of diesel. Go to the station and get a canful. Poor it in the filter- Oh yeah- changed the filter with a new one sitting there. Then I figured I might as well pour the rest of the can in the tank (the third) and boom it busted off as usual. The kicker was that it ran out right when I backed into the garage and shut it down. check it out at www.phil9tx.com

Phil, glad you got it working. Gotta love those MUI DD's for simplicity!

BTW, I LOVE your bus port/ garage/ cottage! It's the coolest thing I've seen in a long time. Please post some interior pics sometime.

Cheers,
