just a small tip I suppose, but I just spent about 20-30min and used some armor-all wipes on my bus' tires, and BOY....it really does make a difference. I think its probably one of the most cost-effective ways to make a bus look sharper. it doesn't matter whether you have steel, simulator, or alloy wheels, it really does look nice. also, I had a chance to visit w/ fellow nut and board postee Tim McWhorter the other night while he was in town. if he's in your neck of the woods, you should really take the time to see his coach and visit with his family. tim, his wife, and the kida are all so nice. and theyre travelling the US in an awesome MC9 conversion. it really does look sharp. I took my eagle over to the campground and we gave each other the tours and swapped a few stories. it was good to talk buses with someone that's not my wife or baby daughter. haha. My experience with Armorall on tires is that it turns brown with time, requiring frequent reapplication. The clear tire dressing works nice too, esp. the stuff that foams on. Some people like to use Ru-glyde. |

If you know anyone that has access to ZEP manufacturing, They have a product called "Tireless Shine" That does a great job and does not break down the ruber compisition. I work for an Auto Auction and we use a silicone based product that after time will do damage to the Surface of the tire. No matter what you use keep using it. If you don't, my experiance has show that eventually the tire will dry out and crack. The product from ZEP doesn't seem to do that. |

Do not use anything on tires that has a petroleum base and do not use Armorall - all these things make tires crack. You will shortly have small cracks all over your sidewalls. All these products leach the oils out of tires and make them dry. There is a product called 303 something that is made for this purpose. I understand it is expensive and I intend to get some when I get new tires. I've never tried it but learned a long time ago not to use Armorall. |

Almost all brake fluid is vegetable base, some very small amount is silicone base--NONE is petroleum base. Probably most people know tires are made of synthetic rubber which is petroleum base, even ones who are not busnuts. Franklin, Thanks, I had lost my link. |

I never use Armor Rot on anything. Either makes things slimey or causes them to split sooner then they would have it you left them alone. Even Pledge is a better idea, but honestly I like my tires natural. Once you start applying goo to your tires, you have to keep putting the stuff on them. |

Yes....but do the tire manufacturers hope the public will hasten the demise of a tire by using the stuff? (Sell more tires, guys!!) I use Son of a Gun on all vehicle tires, but frankly, youse guys have me wondering about the advisability of using anything at all. I just put a new German made vinyl top on a 1988 Cabiolet and the installer....in business for many years and recommended by the body shops in town....said without my asking " use only soap and water on the top; no vinyl coatings." Somehow, makes sense to me even living in Southwestern NM. FWIW RCB 1964 Crown Supercoach (HWC) |

Rob, Son of a Gun is the same as Armorall, just cheaper. Bad stuff for tires. I think it may be ok for vinyl tops but don't hold me to that. I use it on my TR4 and 77 Continental vinyl tops, never any problem. The Cont spent its like in AZ. I just received my bottle of Aerospace 303, now to see if it is as good as I think. |
