I remember that some had put a small car in the baggage bay of their bus. I'm looking for more then just a NEV because of the limited range. Does anyone have any information about this option for a "toad"? Thanks |

Ron - What you're talking about is the little Honda 600 from the early '70s. They cut the roof off, shortened the floorpan such that the back seat is now the front, and trimmed the windshield. Fits in Eagle and GM 4905 bays. Makes a good campground runabout, don't know if I'd want to tackle the Interstate with one. . . Send me an email and I'll send you a pic. RJ |

I had to shorten the frame on my golfcart 11 inches AND fabricate a whole new steering gear to be able to roll it under my 4106 floorboards. A Lotus Europa is short enough to roll under a 4905's f/b but to long to fit the 92 inch width. There is a fibreglass kitcar replica of a Porsche 500 spyder that is the same deminsion as the Lotus. Hmmmm....there seems to be a lack of product to meet the market here.....seems to me that there might be a small niche market for an electric "Bay car"....! |

I've seen some electric cars around town that are pretty small. But they are tall with a high sweeping roofline. One would have to chop the top off, which may be half the structural strength of the thing. They are about the size of a golf cart. Don't know the make. Scott |

There was a bus for sale in Seattle 2 years ago. The guy had a hydrolic ramp and could load a Geo tracker on to the ramp when lowered. It was suspended by the pistons and locked with chains while being driven. I belive it was a converted school bus with the back raised and the floor cut out and lowered. It was something to see. ( the combo sold for 35 k You might find that with a small amount of alterations to the bus, an oridiginal MG Midget would fit both height and length wise. Restored they are awsome cars and they are light as well Pete |

I talked to a guy in Mississippi about a bay car (modified honda 600) that he had for sale two years ago. He said he was 6'2" and very uncomfortable in it. Said it was good for up to about 8 miles local driving. If you are not that large, it might be a good idea for you though. Steve Fessenden |

I also forgot to mention n old racing buddy of mine. He bought a 72 pass. schoolie and made a flip top back for it and then used 2 aluminum ramps to get BOTH of his racing Mini Coopres into the "garage". The front was bunks on 1 side and food service on the other. He toted that pair of Mini's for years to races all over the midwest and central Canada! He was the envy of most participants and was completely self contained and sufficient...(the bus cost him less than a grand) |

You can contact Ray Cave located in Excelsior MO. about converting a honda to fit in the bay of a coach! His e-mail is: : raycave@sprynet.com That's all I know at this time, other than he is a nice honest guy and sometimes that's rare in the bus business! Ace |

I saw a 4107 or 8 advertised recently (last 6 mo.) and the guy said he had a cut-down Austin Mini that fit into one of the cargo bays. I'm pretty sure that it was in Canada. Steve Toomey PaBusnut |

RJ sent me a picture of a cut down Honda 600. I also find a couple more on the internet. I was thinking about a MG miget. I have a friend who has one sitting in a barn that he doesn't drive any longer. It has been sitting for a couple years so it would take some work. I going to head over to his house this week and take the tape to it. I think the price for Austin Mini's is going to continue to rise because of the New Mini. I race sports cars and was looking for a small run around car that I could go between the camp and track. (Most of the time right across the road at most. When I can not camp at the track.) I'm looking at an Eagle 05 and I just may have to go with a stacker trailer. A 40 ft coach & a 35 ft trailer just doesn't sound like fun. |

There was a hot looking Mini on sale on eBay last week in the bus category. It was gold colored and a convertable. Looked really trick. But the asking price matched the style. Wish I could find the link again. Don't know if it received any bids. It was in England and would have to be freighted over, but that was included in the bid price. Scott |

I am finding all this talk of baggage bay cars very interesting. So I decided to make a section of my Web site to feature these unique creations. If anyone has a picture(s) they would like to share, please e-mail them to me along with any details about the car or who did the modifications. http://www.dustyfoot.com/baggagebaycars.html So far, I have a Honda 600 picture that RJ sent me. Thanks! Scott scott (at) dustyfoot.com |

I have a three wheel, gasoline engine powered, Harley Davidson Golf Cart that is street legal. Transmission is belt drive variable speed. Built sometime in the 60's I believe. Two cycle gasoline engine that runs backwards for reverse! Have to stop it, push the reverse lever and the starter then cranks it backwards. Since my bays are full, I have been trying to figure some kind of a rack on the back of the bus to haul it. Any ideas? Richard |

Here is a Honda 600 Coupe (unmodified) on eBay with a current bid of $50 and an unmet, undisclosed reserve. Auction closes in 19 hours. It is in Wisconsin. If it were closer to me, I'd consider buying it! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=600559809&r=0&t=0 Scott |

Thanks, Scott. Looks promising. Will have to find out how much it weighs, but suspect not over 500 lbs. If I have a Harley, wonder if I can run with Geoff? Richard |

Hey Ron in SD, if you get a Midget that has a bad engine, take out that cast iron block and tranny and put a Honda Goldwing in it. Get one of the later ones that have reverse, less weight, and more HP. Mine went like stink! Cheers...JJ |

Here is a company making some interesting vehicles that might work in a bay. http://www.corbinmotors.com/products.html The merlin coupe especially looked interesting. I don't know how tall this thing is going to be though. Larry |

I think that is just too cool. There is a Honda 600 coupe for sale not far from me. They are asking $1700 for it. I haven't seen it, but I am really tempted to go have a look. I'd just tow it four down, unmodified, with the idea of modifying it later. . . Someone tell me to come back down to earth and finish the bus before I buy another project, please. Heck, I don't even have baggage bays to put one into, but I still want one. Scott |

Looking for a unit try Corbin Seat Co. in CA They make a small gas & electric combo that will fit in a bay of a 4905 and it will run any where you want to go. Room for two but not a lot of storage. They are on the net. Check search engine for corbin seat When done ask for Mike Corbin. |

I wonder if you are referring to the Corbin Merlin Coupe? http://www.corbin.com/corbinmotors/merlin.shtml Only seats one person, but sure looks cool! The Roadster is pretty hot too! Get one for me and another for the future missus! Way out of my price range, no doubt. But, something to save my pennies for! Scott |
