I have a 1980 MCI 9, I have removed the A\C and plan to put the batteries for house power in the condensor bay to have air flow. Is it ok to place the inverter in the same place as the batteries or is this too dangerous, also how about a convertor |

I wouldn't put "ANY" spark producing device in close proximity to any battery, not even AGM's..... The Hydrogen gas produced has a nasty habit of exploding.... Remember the Hindenburg! |

John if your inverter has a charger on it you would not need a converter. |

I would also not want to expose the delicate electronics of my inverter to the corrosive fumes of the batteries. happy coaching! buswarrior |

John, I put my Xantrex 3012 inverter charger in a compartment beside my batteries. they have been that way for over a year. Here is the kicker. I used a 4 x 8 sheet of silver sided insulation board as a divider. On the battery side, I installed a piece of pvc pipe, a "T" and 2 round ac duct vents to vent the gases out of the compartment. I cut the board down to size and made a box to separate the inverter/charger from the battery bank. My compartment is about 30" x 14". Now for everyone else who reads this, I did it this way because this was my only option. I am not saying that it won't hurt anything, ...just saying it has been this way for over a year with no problems. I discussed this with a coach builder in Nashville, TN. he said it would be fine. -- BILL |

Put Hydrocaps on the batteries and there will be no fumes. My inverter has been in the same compartment with three 8D's for 6 years - no problem, no corrosion anywhere. |

Hydrocaps tell to remove the caps when equalizing or during heavy charge/ discharge rates, what do you do about the gasses while the caps are removed? There was also something about the life span of the hydrocap. How will you know when to replace them? Seems better to avoid the potential problems if at all possible since an inverter is more than pocket change for me. After reading about hydrocaps & the water-miser caps, I prefer the water-miser because you can ignore them & let the inverter do it's charging thing without intervention. kyle4501 |
