Nice old Crown I think they are a good looking bus and cerntainly the best looking school bus ever built. Tell us a bit about your bus Doug what engine and trans does it have and what year is it? Tim | ||

Doug...looks really good. Tell us more about the windows up front on the sides. You must be very close to the floor with those. Are those Alcoas?. Thanks for the kind words all, The original engine blew up shortley after I bought the "byway Lady" But (Don't tell my wife this) it was a blessing in disguise because I really wanted to repower it so after a long time searching I found an 855 for the bus. I had the shop turn the pump up to 2250 rpm and as much fuel as they could according to the engine particulars which is about 300 hp.I have the same 5 speed as came with the bus but I put a 355:1 rear end in her so now she does 82 indicated mph I would to see for a fact what it really does though.In the process I only left the middle axle as the drive axle cause I don't (hope) think I need all that machinery cause my boondocking will be kept to a minimum. All of the windows are out of conversion vans.They do extend to about 12 inches from the floor which will be interesting when I start the interior.All the windows in the front have the van curve to them so I put a piece of 16 gage sheeting I pushed it up under the drip rail and screwed it to the bottom of the first rub rail. Then I welded the ends closed to conform wht the curviture of the windows.It came out better than I invisioned it would and I think makes for a very interesting detail. Paint will be the first order of business in the spring. I WILL be at Acadia for 07.I don't think there are many people who don't know what a poor puter person I am so if anyone sends me their phone# I will talk for hours .Thanks again for the encouragement | ||

Doug, I think you will like the low windows. The biggest complaint I had on my Eagle was that the windows were so high that when you were seated on the couch or occasional chairs all you could see was the trees. You could not see down on the ground close to the coach. Had to stand up to see who was at the picnic table. Richard | ||

The biggest complaint I had on my Eagle was that the windows were so high that when you were seated on the couch or occasional chairs all you could see was the trees. You could not see down on the ground close to the coach. Had to stand up to see who was at the picnic table. Richard I have same problem with my windows, sitting down the bottom of the windows are above eye level. Nice coach | ||

Doug ...quite a complicated trick with the windows, as I vision it, but the really look very nice. Wish we could see a close up. I kept my parallel sliders on both sides, but often wish I could do something else. I'm not particularly into more structural work on our coach, but have considered doing new, dirt proof (sure ) sliders. The windows are big enuf, and one can see a lot, including tables outside, etc. if sitting close to a windoow, however, the present sliders are very long , about 69 inches as I recall. They are about 24 inches off the deck and 28 inches high. Paint is last on my agenda. For whatever reason, I keep finding things on the outside which I want to do, change, get rid of, or whatever. One would think 5.5 years into a conversion that all would be done that could be done. No so here. We contnue to use the coach for short and long trips, get lots of interest from others and enjoy the comforts of our home on wheels. Thanx for your explanation... RCB | ||
