According to my Detroit Diesel Series 92 Service manual the first T/A (turbocharged/aftercooled) configuration was offered in 1975.
My copy was copyrighted in 1988 so the info I have is only good till then.
No where in the manual, that I have found, does it refer to an intercooled engine and specifically states in the footnotes that T/A is turbocharged/aftercooled.

The sixth digit in a serial no. is the indicator for turbocharging/aftercooling, being a 4 if MUI T/A (non DDEC), DDEC I T/A, or DDEC II T/A, Being an "A" for DDEC I, and a "B" for DDEC II. There will be four numbers, then a hyphen and four more. The second set is where the number "4", or the letter "A" or "B" will appear as the second digit (letter).

The first number in the serial number well be an 8 shich designates a 92 series engine.
The next two will indicate the number of cylinders 06 or 08 (or 12, or 16)
The fourth digit is engine application designation
The fifth digit indicates the rotation and basic engine arrangement(starter location).

I'm not a Detroit Diesel guru, but I will share what info my books have.

Ed's information is correct here is a site that gives you all of that information plus much more if you need it! http://www.powerlinecomponents.com/literature/detroit_diesel/v92_model_chart.htm If you look to the left side of that page under literature you will find mucho information on DD's, Cummins, and the like!

If you look just in front of the governor housing on the front of the blower, there should be a water elbow with a short peice of rubber hose coming from the top of the engine block and going to the left front water outlet on the cylinder head. That is the water oulet for the aftercooler.

The elbow that Guy refers to on my 6V92 has developed a small leak. It is so tight in that area that it is hard to even look around without using a mirror. It looks like I may have to remove the blower to get at this good enough to make the repair. Anyone done this and can offer help???
Thanks,
