The discharge air from my Air Dryer on my Eagle 20 has black oil in it. How much oil is normal? It builds air okay. It's likely the compressor has a problem, but how serious is oil in the discharge?

the air dryer is doing what it's supposed to do.... everytime the governor on the air compressor cycles, the air dryer dumps....there realy shouldn't be any oil discharge from the system..... oil being dumped normally would indicate that the air compressor is in the first stage of failure....check and make sure that the intake for the air compressor isn't oily also.....if it is, the engine may be sucking oil out thru the air compressor, when the air compressor is running unloaded....also the air compressor may be sucking oil from your engine....ive seen it happen on oil bath oil air cleaners when the air cleaner was very dirty....if you have a common intake, you can isolate the air compressor easily...

probably not...... the air compressor is pressure oiled with a line... and returns back through the housing where it bolts to the engine cover......just how much oil is ejected each time the air dryer dumps????i'd still try and isolate the air supply for the compressor and see if its wet....

Sorry for not answering sooner Jim, I was out of town. The dryer dumps probably half a teaspoon, maybe less.
