Hey Dutch, we can offer ideas but don't have a lot of info to work with.

I think you have a 4106 GM or similar bus.

GM used some mechanical throttles and some air throttles.

My gut thinks this sounds like a stuck mechanical (cable) throttle. Look & see if there is an air line leading from the "Go Pedal" or if there is mechanical linkage leading to a big cable. (The mechanical linkage can be seen clearly if you open the acess door under the driver's seat on the front left outside corner of the bus.

If it is a mechanical throttle, something is stuck, most likely the cable itself. The center of the cable is supposed to be removed, lubed & reinstalled periodically. Normally nobody does it until it locks up. There are two places most likely to be stuck. One is in the engine compartment because the heat tends to drive out the lube. The second is over the rear axle in that hell between the two bulkheads where sometimes the cable outer jacket fails due to rust.

You said it goes to full power but I'll bet it's part throttle. One of these engines at say, 1500rpm sounds pretty intense.

If it is an air throttle, it is rare for them to fail towards full throttle. Look for the throttle pedal sticking part way down, or the throttle sticking at the engine.

Obviously, try to lube the throttle system & work it loose. If it worked well enough for you to leave where the bus was, then a bit of penetrating oil should get it loosened up if you can get the lube to the bad spot.

If you can drench it on site without disassembly & make it work, that's the plan. If you take it apart on roadside something may break or get lost & you'll be stuck good. If you can't get it to work decently that way you'll HAVE to take it apart.

You haven't mentioned what you found. Our answers get much better if we could see what you can see.

If it is a cable give it a good soaking in penetrating oil and wait until it is loose before you use any kind of lube.

This seems to clear out the rust and any old hardened oil.
