I had a friend (yes one) that years ago was a fanatic about detailing his car before detailing became a hot thing and he used brake fluid EVERY DAY on his tires and sometimes more than once. They always looked good BUT after a while the paint would start to "pit" away at the rear lower quarter panels and lower front fenders. It WILL remove the paint if slung onto it after repeated use but it WILL NOT harm the tires! I bet he went thru a small can of brake fluid every week! That was back in the 70's-80's before all the new fangled foams came out! Ace PS HI Bill! Where you guys at now? | ||

Bob, You need to leave that small shovel at home when you visit the board. Seems like somehow a seemingly random comment of yours tends to dig up stuff that was buried but not apparently forgotten. Also, Willie has a website and email link via his daughter who most likely will ignore you and anyone else she doesn't specifically know. I for one have always used ATF on anything vinyl or rubber since it is used for transmissions and they are filled with rubber O rings. My uses include dash board,tires,all engine hoses,vinyl on bumpers,ignition wires the list goes on and on. It lubricates them and makes them look new. THATS my choice and I'm sticking too it. | ||

I guess a few of us enjoy FANNING the flames. I still appreciate 2d's input, as most of it is helpful. Just sometimes he rubs people the wrong way, and like two tomcats some decide to Get Into It. Brake fluid is vegetable base. Brake fluid softens rubber and removes paint. Tires are petroleum base. Any type of petroleum solvent will dry out rubber. Armorall will dry out tires. If you want your tires to look nice drive the bus or buy an overpriced tire treatment called 303 Protectant that actually restores the oils to the rubber. | ||

I've always found it amusing to watch/read when some one gets their feelings hurt just as soon as one of their insults gets tossed back at them. I also find entertaining the lengths some will go thru to defend an old wives tale (or legend) when science contradicts it. I may not be the brightest bulb on the tree, but I do try to think for myself (Hey, I did say 'TRY'). ymmv |
