I will be installing the AC unit in the old escape hatches. I know the opening is 14” sq. Do I make the opening larger and add a wood frame around the opening like on a window? I was told that this would cut down on the noise from the AC unit. Looking at Fred Hobe site it does not look like he does this also how large should I make the new skin to close in around the AC units. Should I go forward to the Rib and back to the rear Rib and how far down the sides? Should I just cover the area that the frame covered with either Aluminum or Stainless steel skin? Which is the best to use? I am installing two Fan-Tastic Vents off center in the roof also. I would like to have any help you can give on these two instillations. I do appreciate your input. Paul |

You can go here and see how I framed my openings on the inside,= http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/busshellconverters On the outside I covered the openings with a 2' x 2' square. |

I used 2"x2" oak square stock, and made the opening 14-1/4" x 14-1/4". The ACs fit perfectly. Aluminum (060) on top, with butyl between it and the bus roof, held down with self tapping sheet metal screws. You don't need much overlap on the roof. ust about 2" or so, to be able to screw into either the oak, or metal framework of the bus. Too much overlap may allow for too much flexing and expansion/shrinkage. Take your time doing it... (Message edited by john_mc9 on April 01, 2007) |
