Hello fellow busnuts After "wrestling" with my 4106 I decided to bring it to a mechanic who knows a lot more than me about my gm He is going to charge me about 3000-4000 dollars for this: Resurfacing brakedrums New u joint arm that is broken Replace aircompressor Replace cannisterfilters to screw ons Clean airchambers and hoses to all 4 wheels there was about 1 gallon of oil comming out of the aircompressor Plus labor. Starts today done by wednesday. Plus 4 airbags(the old one are full of oil.) Does this seem to much or pretty fair price??? |

Make sure that resurfacing brake drums don't cause shoe application problems. I'd want the brakes gone over thoroughly... worn anchor pins, bad rollers, worn slack adjusters, worn lining, etc. How much of the original lining is left? If it is worn half or more, you might consider new linings and new drums. New drums and linings aren't as expensive as you might think. If the drums get cut because of grooves and uneveness, the lining will have to wear back in to the drum, as it will be uneven and have ridges too. When drums are cut oversize, you are supposed to install oversize rollers to maintain the proper travel. Unless they just need a light clean up cut and all parts are in good condition, you should consider a complete redo, and replace brake diaphrams while you are at it as the oil in system will cause them to deteriorate. Does your coach have dd3's or emergency brake lever? Just replacing the rear bags? |

Just to add it up in my head and guessing about $80 hr labor, I can see about $2800. New drums $125 ea, compressor $300, u joint $50, filters $125, air spring $150, brake shoe kits $50 ea.... Drums {4} $500, Shoe kits (4) $200, compressor $300 u joint $50, filters $125, air springs $600. $1775 parts estimate. labor est. 1 hr per wheel for outboard brake job $320, compressor 2 hr $160, u joint $80, filter head change $80, 1hr per bag on air springs $320, $960 labor est. $2735 total guess! |
