Can any one tell me from experience? Does the cam shafts have to be changed when switching a left hand rotation to a right hand rotating engine?
I have new cams for a left hand rotation and wonder if they can be used in my right hand rotating engine.
thanks
carl

Carl
I have personally done the switch a year ago for a bus nut. NEVER AGAIN. It is a lot of work. You must use the cams from the engine you want to end up with. That is if you want a left turning engine you must use the left cams. You also have to use the oil pump from the left engine and the idler gear from that same engine. The cranks are universal according to DD unless they are very old then it is one for left and another one for right. If you want to call me and I can answer any of your questions feel free to do so. 905-873-8929. Bill

This depends on the engine you are changing. If it is a in line engine the top end of the engine is exactly the same as the cam does not change direction only the crankshaft changes direction. I am not sure about a v block two cycle but on the in lines the only parts you need to change as long as both engines are the same make up style is the gear on the crank shaft and the idler gear as the helical angle is opposite from right hand engine to left. The oil pump can simply be changed by removing the regulator body and reinstalling in the opposite direction.

I changed engines about six years ago in 4905, Every new part from dd had to returned because they kept sending right turn and not left turn. Big deal if not right. Mike
