Has anyone used Equal, the poly-plastic beads that you drop a sackfull in a new tire mount? I bought 8 bags (12oz) for about $12.00 each... and plan to use them on the next set of tires I buy. Anyone done that with their's? Best regards, dg |

equal is not plastic beads but a powder I thought. I had cetrimatic ballancers at all 4 corners of my 04, dad still does on his 08. I put dynabeads in the steer on my MC-8..... they all work great. equal can be problimatic if it gets wet, clogs valve stem and if you don't tell your tire guy it is in there |

You also have to purchase a special schrader valve/filter or the powder will clog it! |

I've heard of some using a couple of golf balls. I've also heard of some using about a pint of antifreeze per tire. |

If your tires have a warranty, you might want to see what the tire manufacturer has to say. Michellin will void the warranty if you put anything in the tire except air or nitrogen. For what it's worth. PS most balance powders require DRY air as moisture may cause clumping which will prevent the stuff from balancing the tire. (Message edited by kyle4501 on April 21, 2007) |

An age old solution!!! 3 golf balls per tire is all that is needed for perfect balancing. This has been proven. No warranty issues!!! -- BILL |

Do a search in the archives for "golf ball" http://www.busnut.com/bbs/messages/233/12647.html is one of the threads that showed up. Read up on this before you decide. There are lots of opinions out there. Choose wisely |

I have used the new "Beads" with great success. I am using them in my Prevost XLII (work bus) for the last 2 sets of tires and My own Eagle model 10 for about a year. I have never had a balance issue with the "beads". Be careful not to confuse the beads with the bags of powder commonly found at truck tire places. As stated above they need DRY air and a special valve stem core. The bags worked O.K. but the beads are great. I checked the inside of the Prevost tires when they were being replaced and found no evidence of any abnormal damage inside the tire. I highly recommend the beads and even plan on using them in my pickup truck next time I buy tires. as always YMMV. Good Luck! Best, Justin |

Here we go again with this balancing bit. I've tried Equal-doesn't work well. After 1.3 million miles of driving and lots of experimenting-here's what I found. When buying new tires, have ALL tires spun balanced before remounting on the bus (ideally, spin balancing on the bus is best, but very few still do that). If you want additional balancing use Centrimatics with the ball bearings in auto trans fluid. They have enough weight to make a difference. The rings with Mercury in them don't have enough weight to make a difference. Equal, ball bearings, golf balls-I wouldn't chance the possibility of ruining tires over. Good Lluck, TomC |
