Is there a way (tool-meter,???) to check RPM on a generator other than installing a Tachometer? Every once in a while I do a "tune up" including changing filters, plugs, etc and would like to reset, or at least check for reset.

'ppreciate it! ...:-)

A frequency meter is the best way to set the rpm. Generally about 61 hertz at no load and 59 at full load. Many volt ohm multimeters have a frequency setting also.

hi rcb

start generator. plug in electric clock you have determined to be reasonably correct. use stop watch to check clock accuracy.

when the big hand is on twelve, start the stop watch. after one minute on the stop watch the clock should equal. if not, adjust generator rpm accordingly.

Here's another handy gadget to have around that will do what you want - and a lot more. I keep mine plugged in all the time, and it has alerted me to campground power problems a couple of times in the middle of the night. Nobody should be without a monitor of some kind.
