OK, my bus is sitting in Boulder NV. and i am in Orange County Ca. Things did not work out there to do bus conversion. What i am trying to do is make bus mobile so as while working on it i can also use it. I have purchased (4) 125 watt solar panels, new used tires in great shape,300 amp battery Isolator and a used kubota D850 diesel missing generator. I realize there are several other key components that i still need to purchase just to get it on the road to use. next weekend i will be talking to someone to see if they can help me do a roof Raise,he is the welder not me. I just can't see spending $6-$9,000 although i can tell that there is a lot of work involved. My biggest problem is finding a place to work on it,Hence original place did not work out( lesson learned always have a contingency plan) It has really been bumming me out that my bus is sitting in Boulder Nv. I am located in So.Ca.if anyone in this area knows of a place that i can pay to park and work on conversion,Please E-mail me or phone me @ (949)632-5083 I would be forever Grateful. So what else do i need??an Inverter/charger, Automatic transfer switch,Solar battery charge controller,Elec house panel and i definitely need to have bus serviced. I know there is more just tired of typing. RJmule Randall. Have a great day !!! Randall |

When I was doing my conversion, I rented a hanger at a small airport $200 a month (1999). |

I am just a little confused about your problem. Many of the things you list above are certainly not necessary to make the bus mobile. Doing a roof raise is going to take the bus out of service for weeks, and maybe months. Certainly not conducive to making it mobile. If a roof raise is considered an absolute necessity before driving a mile, then you really need to consider contracting a known professional who can do the job right in the shortest amount of time. As for the solar stuff, unless you are against plugging in, I don't see the need. Also, I'm not sure 500W of solar is going to buy you much. Seems like an enhancement that needs to be planned and added on later. Automatic transfer switch is certainly not a necessity. I've been using my bus for over a year now, and I just plug and unplug as needed. You also seem to have bought a genset that does not have a gen. If you are in a hurry, why buy stuff that is broken, it will just take more time and money to fix it. I guess I am confused by the apparent urgency of your message yet you are talking about doing things in a very time consuming manner. |

I can do a roof raise and have it closed in in about 5 days with a helper. |

Why I Do The Things I do Is probably Related to Money Issues. I am Not Really trying To Take The Road Less Traveled It's Just When Your on S.S.D.I. One Has to Watch Every Penny. I have had Health Issues for The last 30 Of 49 Nine Years,So I can Either Die Trying To Build A Bus OR Sit By the Curb Begging for Nickels. I Prefer the TRYING, Even Though It May not Be the RIGHT Way. RJmule Randall |

Rj I think that you can do with the inverter, and other electric items unless you are going to boondoock most of the time. I am a campground pole for the meantime. That saved me thousands of upfront monies. I am very comfortable using the bus and staying at campgrounds. I have lived fulltime since the hurricane and it is not bad at all. |

Ron, Wish I was closer to your area so you could do it if interested. Thanks all, I just received two more 125 Watt Kyocera solar panels which now brings the total to 750 watts, Not bad for two evenings work helping a gal remove them from her residence. Now just an inverter, transfer switch, battery controller and get my Kubota generator working. It will happen !!!!! Just not sure when. RjMule Randall |
