I finally had a chance to test the O/D unit on my V731 that Bill Teal designed. I did a 900 mile trip with it and it works great. Coast to engage and accelerate to disengage and you don't even feel it work. The tachometer is the only indication of it. Although I have used it only on a 900 mile trip I showed about a 2 mile per gallon increase. Going on a 10,000 mile in the fall so I hope to show pretty good fuel savings especially at the cost of the stuff now. Bill

Bill,
Congratulations!! And you now have the only one mated to a 6V92. I gave up on my project of building one(I like the Spicer) and sold the plans and the stuff I'd acumulated to someone who may actually finish it.

Hey Bill,
Can you give us some more info?
Like what was your top speed before and after the OD install.
How long did it take to install?
What was the cost?
And any photos would be great.

I hear Bill Teal had a book out about this. Is it still available? Would be interested in all the info too. If you could post or email all the great info. What Austin ask for would be great. Got my interest too.

My top speed with the regular V731 is 68 mph at 2110 rpm. Now with the O/D unit it is 88 mph on paper. I have not run it at that speed but the math shows it should be 88 mph at 2110 rpm. I am running 4.56 to 1 gears in the rear end. At 65 mph without the O/D unit I turn 2036 rpm and with the O/D engaged I turn 1566 rpm. I still have to overcome a 30* rise in temp with the O/D unit working but another cooler should do that. I am really pleased with the results but the availability of the gear sets is very limited. Bill Teal got some from Mexico if I remember right. Nimco might have some VS2 trannys around. You need the 8V71 flywheel from a VS2-8, (can be reworked for 92 series) V730 input shaft, VS2 input shaft, VS2-8 planetary gear set and a VS2-6 planetary gear set, and an direct/overdrive clutch pack from either VS2 tranny. I took a long time to accumulate the parts but then it went okay. I have some pictures but I don't know how to post them. I am away for a few days but somebody might tell me how to post them so I can do it next week. Bill

I forgot to answer your question. We are going with 40 motorhomes from Salt Lake City Utah out west to CA, Grand Canyon, Vegas, etc and ending up in Albuquerque NM for the Balloon festival. Really looking forward to it.

Dan
It is a planned tour with about 40 other units ranging from trailers to motorhomes. I don't have the itinerary till July so no idea yet as to the dates. All I know is we meet in Salt Lake City on Sept 4th ending up at the Balloon Festival for a week in October then head home.

Buswarrior
Hope to see you at the Grand Bend rally this year. August 23 to 26th. We leave to the USA after that.
