How to fix the original GM emblem.

Remove the emblem from the plate and remove the paint from the rear of the plastics with a foam sanding block available at Wal-Mart of 1000 grit, dont remove the chrome paint inside the shallow areas if it is good only the background paint. In my case it was red. Clean the paint from the edges as well and repaint the inside and edges.

The cracks in the plastic unless very severe will not appear easily.
