Does anyone know of a place to park a bus in D.C. and get to the mall? Does the Metro have enough parking for one? Any close Wal-marts or campgrounds close that would be recommended? Another obstacle to overcome before this weekend.

Hello Barn Owl.

In the evening, you can easily park on the street, right on the Mall.

The memorials have a completely different character to them at night, that most tourists miss.

Judging from the number of single female joggers, there can't be any safety issues to worry about.

During the day, Ohio drive, down the side of the Potomac from the Lincoln memorial down past the Jefferson lends itself to onstreet parking. Good number of charter coaches hide down there too.

I have not been down there in over a year, so remember parking regs change....!

happy coaching!

Laryn We stayed at the KOA in millerville Md they have good sites and have a trip t in to town. METRO IS VERY CLOSE.do not think I would stay at Wal-mart there. The Metro does have a very large parking lot.But they will take to it.

Thanks Buswarriar,

I have found that D.C. is one of the most unfriendly places to park on the planet. The last time I was there I wound up with a $130 parking ticket. I am so glad I got there before the tow truck. I could only imagine what that bill would have been. D.C. does a poor job of marking their no parking zones. I needed a pair of binoculars to see it, and then a microscope to read the “till 5pm”. I swore that I wouldn’t go back, but we have an exchange student from France and she wants to see the Capital. I will be up in Maryland anyway so D.C. would only be a small diversion. I will try to find those locations on the map before I leave.

Jerry,

Thanks, you must have posted while I was typing. Here is my metro story: The last time I parked in a metro lot it was full, full, full. Well I was driving a Honda CRX at the time and found an out of the way spot that didn’t block a thing. Wound up with a $40 parking ticket. With that being said I would like to try it again if I thought they would have a space large enough. What do you think?

Buswarriar,

Did you do D.C. with your bus?

Hello Barn Owl.

Yes, both my own for the evening visits, and a charter coach for my day time visits.

You have DC pegged perfectly. They are one of the most unfriendly places to motorcoaches, which bring tourists and their money, in large barrels, to their town to spend.

As noted, watch the poles like a hawk for the signage. The parking ticket people are likely to be driving anything. The one I got in the charter coach was driving a rusty old crew cab pick-up with no markings and nailed us on a quiet day in front of Jefferson monument with a light rain drizzling at 100 degrees, because I unwittingly stopped 150 feet back from where the parking is. Ticket on the windshield before the last passenger was off the bus.

Welcome to the nation's capitol....

happy coaching!

"Judging from the number of single female joggers"

BW - I guess that's what you were referencing - alas they probably don't like 'guys' though -

I'm loving the single life - I DON'T jog - and there's no sense in ruining my life right now - but thanks for thinking of me - next time send pic's please -
