My 10 kw Kohler Kubota diesel generator ran, then just quit; won't start. It has fuel past the fuel pump and filter but won't fire. It will run a bit on starting fluid. Seems like fuel distributor to me. Anyone in the Austin area who can recommend someone to work on it? I've found 2 places that work on them, but they're a week to 10 days backed up. The Austin economy seems great!!! I can limp by on the shore connection and may just have to travel to find somewhere less busy~!!

Doyle,

Are you certain the fuel shutoff on the engine (the one commonly used to shut the engine down) is open? That comes after the filter and fuel pump, and is commonly operated by a solenoid. It's a little lever, usually just above the injection pump on the "right" side of the engine (the side you are looking at if the fan belt is to your right).

If the solenoid is not opening, your problem may lie elsewhere, such as oil pressure or coolant temperature safety switches, a fuse in the engine-stop/run wiring, or even a bad "run" switch or other parts of the control system.

Make sure the solenoid moves that lever when you try to start the generator. If the lever doesn't move, let me know and I can try to walk you through some other diagnostics.

Busnuts Rocks! Sean, I didn't see anything move when I cranked it, butt after 3-4 cranks it fired! Then started and ran, I must have run it out of fuel... Charlie told me that the gen intake is above the bottom of the tanks so you can't run the bus out of fuel by running the gen.... butt, I thought it must have been below 1/2 tank or so. I refueled today. (got 7+mpg up from El Paso) so that healed THAT problem... now the br air got dinged on the way into the bay at the Good-To-Go lube place... the canopy cleared just fine but it clipped the rear a/c unit about belt high... oh well... such is the life a fulltimer!

Thanks to all. I'll be vying(sp) for the "Dutch Award" (Most problems within a week.... hehehe... no offence Dutch!)

Thanks, Dutch... glad you have a great sense of humor. Hadda really unique experience yesterday. I had the oil changed at the Good-To-Go Quick Lube in Dripping Springs. I crawled under the bus, and was having trouble getting the old filter off... sooo David, the assistant manager, crawled under too (the bus was too tall to get in the regular bay over the pit)... he,David, said "I think I can bear hug it off, so he STOOD UP under the bus, and grabbed it to his chest and spun it off!!!! I've actually got a picture the the 'lil guy and all the crew, and as soon as I get "normalized" I'll be posting the whole story and pics.

Here's the bus!

The last 2 are of the short circuit I encountered before leaving and an "air canister" What is it? Can it be removed?

Very nice coach Doyle! Someday ours will look that nice, well it will at least look better than it does now. Don't know what the canister is though, sorry.

Thanks to all... yeah Charlie Brown did a fantastic job. I'm having a blast getting on the road. Gotta work the kinks out, and hope to make a bee-line to Northern climes real soon!

She's a beaut, Doyle. On your way to northern climes, stop by Dallas and I'll buy you a cuppa. If you don't mind being in the rainforest that DFW has been for the last three months!
