Well here we go!!!
I bought 3 basement a/c units to replace the ones I already have(bad). After trying to install them. I come to the conclusion that my returns are in the wrong place. (but smack dab against my water tanks) After looking closely at the water tank, I noticed one had a rust mark around the drain plug. I reach over to touch it and it falls into the tank. I figure it is cheaper to replace the 2 tanks for 2 smaller size for the a/c units rather than selling these 3 a/c units and patching the one rusty tank!!!
WHAT DO YOU THINK???

Hey Nick,
I think I already know the answer to this but... I want to be sure.

I installed one of the coleman basement a/c units. I hooked the coach up from the 50 amp to the 30amp to the 15amp reducer I turned the a/c on it started, ran for approx 2minutes, the blower motor never came on. It shut down. WAS this because I wasn't hooked to the 50 amp service???

Bill -

The 15 amp service is gonna' do that every time. You're
going to need decent power (30+ amps) to keep that
AC unit going. The blower doesn't take much, but that
compressor does!

Bill,

Do you have the single or duel compressor coleman units? If duel, you are going to need 2 legs of 115v. and the fan operates off of 1 leg.
And if single, you would still need a min. 20 amp curcit.

Thanks Guys,
I got her going, I have the 2 stage heat pump units. I fired the 20kw genset up and she started blowing ice cold...On another note my genset is blowing a long ploom of black smoke at starup and it smells like scortched caramel. I saw oil in the bottom of the pan. It ran hot on me again but didn't shut down until after the 300 degree mark. It starts fine and runs fine...nothing knocking or anything, but the temperature goes up quick after 3 to 5 minutes of running. Any suggestions???

It is the 20 kw powertech with the remote radiator. The fan is on the remote radiator. The fan is blowing hard. The radiator is full of water, all air pockets have been removed. The oil is in the bottom of the generator vault in the drip pan. However, the generator is full of oil.

"The oil is in the bottom of the generator vault in the drip pan."

How much oil is in the drip pan?

"However, the generator is full of oil."

How did all the oil end up in the drip pan? How/when did you last check the gen's oil?

That oil came from somewhere

Bill -

Are the hoses going to the radiator hot also, with the input
hotter than the output? It'd be one way to determine if the
water pump is working.... And.... does that thing have a
thermostat? If so, try taking it out, and see if it runs cool.

That sludge you're finding can be coming from anywhere,
with all that heat, who knows what encrusted mass is melting.

Go for the simple stuff first.

I wish I knew. The first time it overheat, I pulled all the water out replaced all the hoses ran a cleaner agent thru it and it ran fine. We went to lakeland Fl. for bigfoots, left there and went to Charleston, Sc. for the cajun festival...It ran hot while we were in a wal mart store. It ran fine for 4 and 1/2 days straight. No problemo!!!

Bill, i have a 17kw in my Eagle with a remote mount and had a problem 2 years ago and found the problem to be that the long rubber hose they ran from the gen to the water pump would suck together replaced about 4 ft of it with cooper tubing and never had another problem yours may already have some tubing and not all hose just a thought on some place to start

Hi Bill,

Check the temps at the supply when running. If there is a higher reading on the unit that is Not sweating, then most likely it's short on refrigerant.
Good Luck

The temperature is 47.5 degrees. I doubled the supply duct that I installed. It is made of the double sided silver foam insulation board. It is not sweating now. I am in Tn. at Hales Bar marina checking everything out. So far, both a/c units are doing there job (quick) and the plumbing and tanks are leak free!!!
