I know I asked a while back...I cant find the thread...so I'll ask again. Is there a code as to the location to put the fresh and city water hookups???
Please let me know also if there is a way to view all threads that I have posted in the past???
If someone here have an Eagle, please post a pic or 2 as to where your city and fresh water is mounted. Cauldwell Coach mounted mine inside the bay...this causes floor damage!!!

I believe that the location of the water inlet is not specified, other than there are prohibitions from locating it where it might be contaminated by overflow, etc. of the waste water system and there are requirements for backflow preventers on the fresh water inlet to prevent water from flowing into the city water system.
I don't recall the number for applicable ANSI standard; the applicable CCSA standard is Z240.3.2-99. The two standards are harmonized, so the requirements should be very similar.
Our fresh water inlet is located within a bay and the freshwater hose enters through an access port on the floor of the bay.

Mine's in a bay too... third one on drivers side. I have a short pigtail hose in the bay that connects to the hose going through the floor. What floor got damaged? The floors in my bays are aluminum and an occasional spill won't hurt them. If water is damaging something, the leak is the problem.

Im going to install 2 water hookups at the rear drivers side between the axles in a box that use to be there. My floor has a wood overlay and the leak problem is at the inlet ports that were mounted inside the bay door. There's already a hole in the wall that would accomadate the pipe. Has anyone else mounted the water hookups thru the silver siding???

I like your idea about using the a/c makeup air door. I may move mine to that location. Sorry to steal your Idea.
Not sure if I would want to cut a hole in the siding, but it can be done. |

Ok I got the water hookup in place. It dont look bad. I took a different approach. I put 1 fill location on the outside with two shut off valves on the inside to switch from fresh water to city water. I would post pics, but everytime I try, it will not accept it.

That why I was asking. I used one hookup also. The hookups have a backflow valve and a pressure regulator, so I connected my hookup to the same line as the pump output. So my hookup is in parallel with the pump, and both connect to the whole house fitler. After the filter, I have a line to the fresh water tank with a shutoff valve. This way water into the fresh tank is flitered.

I would not connect the city water so that it can pressurize the RV water pump. And I would not trust a check valve or a pressure regulator. I have not seen a regulator OR a check valve that didn't leak just a little, allowing full city pressure to build up in the pump when you are not using water. I have had two cracked pumps due to pressure. I found a campground in Kissimmee, FL (near Disney) that had 110PSI at the hose.
I now isolate the pump inlet from city water with a ball valve when connecting to "city water". I normally just refill my tank & shut off the water when the tank starts to overflow. It takes us 2-3 days to use 100 gallons of water.

I have the 1 inlet into the coach...a tee ...a ball valve before the fresh water tank...a ball valve before the city water. When i'm on city water, I turn the valve to the fresh tank off. Therefore i'm not pressurizing the pump. When i'm on fresh warter, I turn the valve to the city water off. Therefore i'm not back flowing water into my fresh tank.

The only problem? While your city water is being diverted
around the holding tank, the water is still going through all the
pipes, and into the water pump from the opposite side.
And yeah, higher pressure than you planned on, can pop the
pump's seals real nice. It's hell to find that out at 0-dark thirty.
(Don't ask)
(There are one-way valves you can buy, btw)
The pressure regulators -can- allow pressure to build up, but
I've never personally experienced any problem after installing one. |

Hey John,
I hooked the system back up the same way it was before, the only difference is I have it on the outside now and instead of two separate fill spouts, I used one with two ball valves. I understand what you are saying, I just dont know if it was hooked up right in the beginning. If I wanted to put one way valves in, where would I put them??? I need "acute" detail!!!

I guess a good spot for a one-way valve, would be at the
-output- of the pump. That oughta' keep the city water out of
where you don't want it.... (you hope)
I like what JimW does: fill the holding tank and use what's
in the holding tank. You'd always have fresh water in the tank
and a full tank as well!
We've always made a habit of turning off the city water if we
weren't in the RV, or at night prior to bedtime.
You would be surprised to see what happens when some stupid
water fitting decides to fail...under pressure... with an unlimited supply
of water behind it... |
