Joe, the only 2 i know of are IBP at 1-800-468-5287 and AM Equipment at 541-327-3362 but i think AM makes the kit special order only now.many make their own like Jack Conrad.i got mine for my Eagle from Am 6 years ago and never installed the unit keep waiting for my air to quit (Message edited by luvrbus on August 25, 2007) |

Debbie and Joe, servicing the air wipers is much simpler, safer and less expensive than converting to electric. Do you want your wipers to work like they do on a car? Tom Caffrey PD4106-2576 Suncatcher Ketchikan, Alaska |

I find something strangely soothing about the sound my air wipers make, and enjoy driving in the conditions that have me using them the most. Jay 87 SaftLiner |

Hi Joe ... I installed electric wipers in my Prevost and love them. Way more constent speed and the delay is great. I install a dash out of a 96 NavStar Truck and took the wiper setup and steering column out of it. I use a single wiper motor and mounted it in the middle of the bus then made linkage to the wiper arms. http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l175/prevost82/Dash.jpg Ron |

hi debbie and joe am converting gmc rts 1989 40ft. one of first things to go were air wipers. here are the basics of how it was accomplished. be aware that it can get expensive and time/labor intensive. of course, that's relative to what you want. parts req'd: 1) wiper arms, motor(s) and transmission(s) from 1996 thru 2000 chrysler midsize van. these were the largest ones available with left and right dedicated arms. ($75) one set from salvage yard. ($35) second motor. 2) switche(s) from cole hersee ($25) each new. 3) relay from radio shack ($10) each new. 4) misc wire, connectors, washer fluid tank, etc. ($10) total from salvage yard. due to the layout of the rts, it made better sense to use two motors & switches, operating the wipers independently, as opposed to running both thru one motor and transmission. we drilled new mounting holes on each side just under the windshield, which allows the wipers to lie down flat and horizontal along the bottom of the glass and, virtually invisible. the chrysler wipers clear a greater area of the windshied but, in an arc as opposed to the normal 'straight across' action common to buses. if preferable, you can use your current axles, wipers, and blades by mounting the electric motors in the proper position. getting wiper motor to 'park' in the correct position was a huge problem for us. with the help of Daytona Pete we were finally able to decipher the motor wiring and, accomplish the task of having the wipers stop in the desired spot each time they were turned off. very pleased with the final result. much prefer the 12v to air but, that's just our prefenece. there are advantages both ways but, for the life of me, don't know what they are for the air. if you decide to go for the 12v, will be happy to supply you with details and/or the circuit drawing to 'park' the motor. gary t'berry '89 rts 102" 40er |

A delay switch is available for air wipers. My 88 Eagle has one from the factory & it works great. |

As you can see the majority of posts advise against the change to elec. I can't think of one advantage to elect! You are going to a big expense to change to electric when air can do anything elect can do and better? I can regulate my old 4104 original wipers down to almost stopped and get a swipe now and then. If they get piled up with snow or stopped by ice they won't burn out like electric wipers. I wish my autos and antique trucks had air wipers. |

Thanks for all the responses. Ron that is awesome what you have done with that dash, and no more 24v up there either I'm guessing, a win-win. I also see it's a stick, what no 13speed? LOL We have many other dragons to slay to consider something like that now + I am not yet retired, or independently wealthy yet, not to infer anything with that comment. Gary thank you for the detailed effort, I owe you one. We received a e-mail from a fellow who gave me a pretty good installed price, I think it will be nice to have someone do that instead of me for a change. When we switch I will be happy to give to anyone who would like, the old air ones. |

Dumb Question: There are thousands of buses out there pounding the pavement in all kinds of weather 24/7/365, all running air-powered wipers. If electric wipers are such a great thing, why don't the bus manufacturers install them OEM instead of air-powered? Must be some reason, eh? FWIW & HTH. . .

My Dina bus came OEM with electric wipers. Both wipers work fine on constant high or low speed, but only one works on intermittent. Something else to fix. |

The Prevost and MCI are electric .... all OTR trucks are electric ... and they work way better than air. Ron |

I like my air for one reason.....It works great...Until it fails that's what I'm going to run...Someday I will have to change I know....Then the bucks fall into other hands.. |

I keep my windshields coated with RainX and rarely use the wipers. I have driven in downpours where people are pulling off to the side and I have no trouble seeing. The air wipers do work great if needed for a fine mist that will not slide off the RainX. Just my way! Tom Hamrick 1984 Eagle 10S |

Tom....does RainX "hurt" the blades? Interesting comment. Thanx for the input. How often do you use it? RCB |

Hi RC, I have used it for years on all my vehicles without any apparent damage to the wiper blades. Application depends on the weather and how often you wash the windshields. I usually don't have to apply on the car I drive every day more than once a month. No more than I get to use the bus it is more like once a year!!!!! Tom Hamrick 1984 Eagle 10S |
