We lost a bus nut today due to not properly blocking up his bus while working under it. Here's the story http://abclocal.go.com/wjrt/story?section=local&id=5665625 They didn't give a name but I'm sure somebody knows him. Bob 4104-2346 Flint, Mi |

For the archives: -------------------------------- Bus collapsed while victim was underneath By Kristen Abraham CLARE COUNTY (WJRT) - (09/19/07)--A Clare County man was killed after a bus collapsed on his body Wednesday afternoon. Police say the accident happened on the 4000 Block of West Adams Road just after 4:30 p.m. in Lincoln Township near the town of Lake. Police say the 65-year-old man had been working on the old model bus for several weeks. Police say the man's family has asked for his name not to be released. His wife was home when the accident happened. His home on Adams sits back on the road and is on private property. Investigators say the man was working on his 1959 GMC bus. He was in the process of converting the bus into a mobile home when it collapsed, crushing him. "He had braced it up with two pieces of wood that lost their stability when he was working underneath it," said Deputy Sean Robb with the Clare County Sheriff's Department. "Then it collapses on top of him. He didn't have it braced up properly enough to prevent it from happening." Clare County police say their investigation is closed. There is no indication it was anything more than a terrible accident. Copyright 2007 ABC12 and ABC ---------------------------------------------------- |

Unfortunately, this type of incident even happens to professionals upon occasion. I certainly hate to lose someone from our community in this manner. |

To me, this is the biggest drawback of air suspension. It seems roughly the equivalent of driving over the centerline on a busy highway. You have to pay attention. I still feel its advantages outweigh its disadvantages by a big margin. Tom Caffrey PD4106-2576 Suncatcher Ketchikan, Alaska |

So sad! A 25K bus isnt very forgiving. This post really hits home for me as I am getting ready to raise my bus to remove/replace the fuel tank. Plan lots of cribbing, weight evenly distributed, asphalt surface designed to carry the weight of commercial vehicles DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING before going under! Some solace may be found in the knowlege that he died doing something he loved. |

"Some solace may be found in the knowlege that he died doing something he loved." Dunno.... Maybe his last words were: "This better be the last time I have to crawl under this *&^%$*%#!" May he rest in peace, and know we care. |

John, I for one appreciate your humor even in this tragic situation. If when I die, my friends don't have a party, good food, drink and tell jokes and stories about all the fun, stupid and crazy things I did or we did while I was alive. I will be truly disappointed. Work Safe, Play hard Cliff |

This happens more than we know. I was driving a line run from Long Island, NY to Atlantic City for three months this summer and I was like second on the scene of this type of accident on the garden state parkway. our bus with blown tag axle tire called a tire service to the bus. He jacked the bus up and started to remove the wheel, the jack shifted and the bus fell on the mechanic and crushed him. All of this on the side of the road with passengers outside the watching. What a sad trip. |

Hi folks, Lowell Stewart is the name of the deceased. His handle here was "Preacher". Although he was an avid reader of the web site, he never left a message. I couldn't find him in the MAK profiles. His son phoned me today and has registered with this bbs. I just approved him now, so please expect to hear from him here very soon, as he has written out something he wishes to share with us all. To you, Jerry, my heartfelt condolences at the passing of your father. Thank you for joining us here. You are amongst friends. Best wishes. Ian www.busnut.com |

thanks so much for all your thoughts and prayers,i logged into my e-mail this morning and i was totally amazed by the out pouring of the busnut family whom my dad had touched over the years.as i suspected there were many of whom he had met on the road, talked to on the phone and e-mailed directly.i found comfort in one of the member's comments because my brother and i had just discussed it on the way up to my mom and dads house the nite of his passing and i want to share his last few hours with us amongst his busnut family which i know he would have wanted.the day day he passed away he was working on his bus at home under a big oak tree next to his pole barn it was a beautiful warm sunny michigan fall day and just before the accident happened he called my mom whom was in the house and asked her to bring down some lunch so they could have lunch toghether as he took a break from his work.she did and they sat on one of his bus tires and enjoyed his last meal as we know it toghether next to his bus as i remeber doing myself many times growing up as me and my brother and my dad worked out in the garage or most of the time in the driveway of our house because his semi was to big to get in the garage.we shared many of meals toghether next to an old truck or car as we were working on it toghether.i would give anthing right now to be able to have that back! my dad would not have wanted to leave this world any other way than he did..he was at home with his wife at his side and working on his life long passion his bus.this has been very hard for me to get through this post but i felt all his busnut family should know this and i know deep in my heart he would be glad i have shared it with all you.may god bless each and every one of you and please be careful working on your busses as i cant tell you the pain associated with this type of loss...thank you the stewart family... |
