My 4104 was previously converted using smaller side glass. I'd like more light in the coach and am considering acquiring originals to replace them. Do originals open , and are there any disadvantages in using them? Thanks, JME |

I have one of the originals left in our conversion. Yes, it opens. It doesn't seal very well when closed but isn't a big problem since it is over the kitchen sink and a little water isn't a big problem. The rest of the originals were replaced with Pensula glass tinted windows that also have screens included. If you can afford them, probably the best way to go to keep the bus looking "bus like". -- Don |

Don, In what fashion does it open, and are you saying the pen windows are the way to go? Or are you saying to use the pen-glass over another manufacturer that may not have that bus-like appearance? |

The simplest way to have opening windows and maintain the Bus Look is to simply install screens on the orig windows. This is done with a simple trim ring. The Penn windows only open HALF as much as the good orig stuff , and the "insulation' is a dream , stock units have a .75 R factor , e$pensive Pen stuff has a 1.5 R value.WOW! Yes it looks 2X as good (on paper)but its still almost nothing, and a coach has loads of glass. To me the light and air from lots of opening windows is the way to go. The original windows and the Pen windows are the same frame shape. The originals are two pieces of glass that are at an angle at the center of the window that matches the angle of the ends of the window. Both pieces will slide and the angle allows them to open such that about 1/2 the area of the window is open. The Pen windows, which come with screens are vertical in the center and only one piece can move. When fully open, they uncover about 35% of the window area. Our 4104 has 2 blanked out windows, one original sliding window and the remaining replaced with Pen glass. If I had it to do over again, I would have left the originals in the blanked positions, painted the insides a dark color and then insulated over that. I really like the "original" bus look. I agree with FF about living in a tube cave, however, we don't spend that much time in the blanked out area since it is the back of the fridge, a closet, shower and 1/2 bath. The 1/2 bath does have a very small window that is mounted in part of the blanked out area. -- Don |

What is a trim ring to add screens? I can deal with the original windows for some time especially at my early stage in the conversion of my 4106 (with LOTS of other even more places to spend $ and time) but I am SURE gonna need screens here in the mid west. |

Jerry (and others): IIRC, the trim ring is an old window frame that has been cut in half along the centerline all around the perimeter, making two out of one. Screen material is then stretched over this ring, and the ring is screwed into the existing frame on the bus. Make sense? RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |

Advertise what you need on the Flea Market of this board. Somewhere in cyber land is someone that tubed his coach , or got Penn windows . Last resort would be one of the ommercial sources. Dont be in a hurry , there out there. FAST FRED |

Do the "Pen" windows push out like the OEM for emerg. exit? I'm thinking not. I may put my best OEM glass in the rear (bedroom) and stick Pen in the front most positions. I like the idea of an exit in the rear of the bus (4106). Henry |
