Man, I didn't know I needed a degree in Chemical Engineering to work on a bus!

Da book says to use only molybdenum disulfide grease on the slack adjusters.

After looking for such an animal at the usual places, I called one of the manufacturers, who gave me a more technical explanation than I wanted to hear, but no firm outcome of how to put the stuff in my hand!

I got the impression that this is perhaps a technology that has been eclipsed by something else, but what that is isn't clear. The closest hint I have is that it might be similar to roller bearing grease used on cars with disc brakes.

Does anyone have any insiight about what I should be squirting in there?

Chuck, My manual says to use moly on the tag axle pivots, but calls for lithium on all of the other fittings. Moly grease is available at any tractor supply and most auto stores. I use chevron ultra lithium, which is red and easy to spot when greasing. I maintain a fleet of antique tractors and various greases do serve better in some applications. Just My two cents worth. Well it wasn't at the NAPA I went to - that was when I started getting crabby! :-) Sourcing stuff is a real pain for me. Spend all my time runnin' around and it takes away from the real work. I need an assistant! ('bout 23, with long legs would do just fine. But I'd never get any work done with her around either... :-) )

But it sounds like it's not that hard to find, so I'll do the rounds in a day or two.

Thanks again, guys!

Chuck... Napa does have it or can easily get it. It comes in tubes for your grease gun.
They sell 5 or 6 different greases in those tubes Can get confusing. It is dark grey or black. Also you can buy it from McMaster Carr and get it shipped to you. They have great FAST service and provide a complete description of the different greases they sell; which is probably 20 or more. You could also check some of the current manufacturers of slack absorbers to see what they recommend now-a days

Auto slacks don't like much grease. Its always the greasy ones that don't work right. I live in an area where the only grease that won't wash out is boat trailer wheel bearing grease. Stays put for a year in Seattle under daily truck service.
