Does anyone here know how much play should be in the flexible coupling that is installed at the base of the steering shaft, just prior to being connected to the steering box? I have an MC7 that does not appear to have more than about 3" radial movement at the steering wheel, but has a sloppy, somewhat clunky sound within the coupling. I have looked at the parts breakdown and does not appear that there is much more than a pin inside. Any help here would be appreciated. |

That coupling should have zero backlash (play). The clunking is most likely caused by movenment of the damaged needle bearings due to wear and lack of lubrication. 3 inches is not a lot of radial movement in your wheel, but after repaiing the bearings, it should decrease a bit, and will certainly be smoother.
