I'v been told a series 60 is too long to go in a Prevost. How about a 50? I'm tired of 5 mpg on my 8V92. I understand the 50 does real well on fuel. Of course it has a lot less power but( I thought I would never say it)I'm willing to give up some horses for economy. |

I was a great enthusdiast of modifing the cradle and sticking a 50 into a GM. UNTIL I went and visited an engineer doing a "proper" swop. WOW!! The entire rear of the coach has to be changed from monocoque to semi monocoque a really HUGE and detailed job! The engine torque reacts backwards (even tho the R tranny reverses the roration ) and the engine break or retarder can put out 500hp of retard , over double the force from the usual puny 8v71. This is a hundreds of hours swop , and a huge disassembly of the coach , not a chop & plop. The swopper claims he will have the coach finished enough to drive to Jacks , although there are still hundreds of ft of welding , and of course getting all the D Deck electrics to work. Hopefully a couple of hundred folks will get to eyeball the great work. FF |

Bob what is your 8v92 a DDEC or MIU I have a mechanial 8v92 that averages 7.5 with a 740 if I had a DDEC i could change the transmission to a Eaton Auto shift and pickup another 1 or 2 mpg gallon so I have been told.I got my mileage improvement by lowering the HP, a gear change and with a air to air charger .Check with Don Fairchild someone on the board will have his # he knows all about 2 strokes (Message edited by luvrbus on December 04, 2007) (Message edited by luvrbus on December 04, 2007) |

Here's the card with the info for the new shop. For anyone that wants the info, right click and Save As on the card and you should be able to print it out. Clifford is right. Don knows all there is to know about getting the most out of a two stroke! |

Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to modify your existing 8v92 to what Luvrbus suggested. The cost of a transplant is huge compared overtime to less mpg with your existing equipment. That is of course you have very deep pockets. As suggested talk to Don Fairchild. Look him up on the other board. |

Califbob, My 1994 S-50 gets 10.5 to 11 MPG freeway driving, combo 6% grades and flat. The bus had been repowered before I purchased it and I got a great deal. Otherwise I couldn't have afforded a 4 stroke. Something to consider beside the loss of power is the payback. My repower was $30K, so at $3.50 per gallon (if my math is right) you need to drive a little over 94K miles before you see any savings. |

Bob ... a friend of mine has a small charter bus company and has a 1996 40' Prevost with a ser 60 & B500 tran's in it, factory made. Real short drive shaft. I can take some pictures if you want. He also had a MCI 102a /w a ser 50 in it, we have a lot of 6% grades around here, it sucked, so he sold it Ron (Message edited by prevost82 on December 04, 2007) |
