I've been there with Good Sam. Almost the same situation but I would not let send me to their selected hack. Had to yell at the moron on the phone. Good Sam ERS is useless. I know, many of you will say they are great, but you only have to have this kind of frustration only once to dump them forever. I got to do it twice with them in a month. And it's obvious they keep doing it.

As for the money Rob, if you're not a tight schedule, do a Google search for info on NM Small Claims Court. Also, check the local library while you are down. I think most states now allow up to around $5K for claims, and attorneys (usually) are not allowed to represent the crooks.

Rob

Did you get an expected time required to do the job and the hourly rate in writing before any work was started? You were there most of the time I would assume, so you should be able to confirm the time that it took to do it.

From that you should be able to come up with a cost, that would be within reason and acceptable to both parties.

Joe.

It is probably different in New Mexico, but in California, I have heard, that if you hire an attorney in a consumer rights case, their fees are collected from the defendant. Such attorneys therefore only take cases that they are pretty confident about.

Rob, I'm sorry to hear this. If any of us have had a bus for any period of time, we've been through the "ooops, oh- that's going to be expensive, parts and labor are how much, oh- OK" and come away having paid (probably a lot, but that's how it is) for parts and service. But what I'd hope for people is that they come away feeling that the money spent was reasonable and they got a fair shake -- and we hope that their bus is now in better shape than before.

I'm sorry to hear that your experience has not been good.

We are out of the shop. And I do not mind the right Money for the good service But I do Not Expect to Pay top Dollar for workers that do not know about the work they are to do! And then to get charged 200% for parts well this is not right in any ones book I know 10% to 20% is the going rate and R.G. said it would be 20% not the 200% he tried to charge. Well the bill did come down the out come was $3771.60 and I gave him $3772.00 he would not give me the change LOL this is almost 2 times the high end of the est. which was $1000.00 to $2000.00. We drove back to AZ> !!!

Rob glad you are out on the road again and I would see about a lawer amd check into your rights. He might not have a case if you didn't get it in writing. I have had that problem in the past and tried to get it in writing when I could. Hope you can win some back. and report him and the company to the better business bureah so they can investigate the company and put them on the OFF LIST and they will unless they are good friends? again glad you are headed AWAY from there.

it is going to be harder and harder to find people who will work on buses because these things happen. It always takes longer and never costs less. how many places have done a good job and at a fair or within estimate price? Even some of the "best" places have had unhappy campers. Sounds like you discussed the bill and made a compromise. You knew how many men were working etc. Its tough for both sides probably. Glad your on the road

One of the reasons I bought my particular bus is because it is 1995 and has modern components.

There are lots of shops that will work on a Series 60 and Allison B500 even if they grumble a bit about access to the engine. The rest of the brakes and driveline are similiar to current trucks so that makes repairs of that stuff easier too.

I have grumbled about some of the costs to repair my bus, but I felt the costs were fair and nobody was learning off it.

Yes We had to not go because of Money! And yes we are happy to be back on the road I will now have to go under the bus and look through under there I know the they treaded my hoses badly and droped the drop box on them.and had them in the dirt. So I will block her up again and remove all the hoses and clean them all out check for bad spots. As she is not holding air as she did still with in the limit but Who Knows when a Abused line will blow?

As to being new and good places this is not one of those getting a bad deal! The guy next to us got charged $2300.00 for a fuel pump and then it didn't work couldn't tell the level on fuel. R.G. said I'll open it back up and find out why but you have to pay the labor. Well Merlin High tailed it out. He went back to Cal. (we are still talking) and took it to the dealer the dealer opened it up and found that the level was still tied down for shipment and the charge labor and Pumb $675.00 and get this the pump $300.00 not the $600.00 R.G. truck Service Charged so I would hope you all Do not wind up at this shop.

I have never In my life been in a shop as bad as this Guy is!

I do not know what shops you have been visiting, but I have never heard of a shop only changing a 10-20% markup on parts. 50% is generally considered minimum and 100% is not unusual. 200% is extremely unusual though.

So you feel 50% is fair for a few phone calls ? When you are talking a $3500.00 part plus shipping I would love to make $1700. or $3500. for an hr of phone calls thats a lot more then lawyers or DR.s make. Why would I ever fix your part I can make more on the phone! this to me seems like highway robbery!
