The DD book has a long and complex procedure for "Storage of over 30 days", that few bother to follow.

Someone suggested that Cat or Cummins had a preserving oil that whose vapors would rise and help the engine internals from slowly dieing?

On aircraft there is a special storage oil , but at $50 a gal, with an 8v71 it would be expensive , even if totally reclaimed before use.

On our boat 6-71 its a snap to pull every air box cover and spray fogging oil into each cylinder .

On an 8V the task is much more daunting!

Yes but, the Cat? folks have a far simpler solution with an evaporating penetrating oil.

For folks that will be not using the coach for a couple of months , sealing the inlets and exhaust , and a quart or two of modern majic might at least get used.

The DD required storage procedure is mostly ignored, and the results are e$pen$ive!
