What are your thoughts on using Bruce Engineered Flooring in a bus. It is 3/8" thick & 2" wide. Glue, staple or nail it down. Salesman thinks there is to much flex in a bus. He prefers the floating floor.
Thanks

I'd NEVER use that junk again, not in my home, and especially not in my RV!
I made the mistake of using it a few years back in my house, and I have nothing but bad to say about it. Poor fits, delamination problems, didn't hold a finish well, it warped, the glue came undone, and just about everything bad I could possibly imagine happened. I since pulled it and put in 3/4" solid T&G oak and I have nothing but good to say about it, not a hint of a problem. In my experience, if it's not solid wood and you can't nail it down, don't use it.
I'm going to put solid T&G in my conversion without hesitation. BUT SOLID, not the ply-junk.
Am I opinionated? Yup, you won't get a reaction like this from me on very many subjects....

Being in the flooring business for 32 yrs now, I would have to agree. The laminated stuff is Junk, either in the home or out!

It's not as elegant as tongue & groove hardwood, but I have had good experience using oak parquet flooring. It's relatively inexpensive and easy to work with. I'm considering using it in my bus as well.

I just finished installing Bruce prefinished 3/4 nail-down maple in my 4106. looks great although I would do it differently if I were to do it again. more pre-prep, i.e. seal sub floor, install vapor barrier (rubber sheet) over sub floor and up sides. I think I’d use un-finished too cause I need to apply a couple coats of poly to seal the top any way . got the floor cheep, like 2.25 per sq ft. ask for T grade which is tavern grade. it is the stuff bruce rejects and if it dos't pass for T grade it gos in the shreader. i put down 1100 sq ft of t grade in our home 2 years ago, looks great. We laid 3/8 inch solid, pre-finished, T & G Ash flooring in our DAF conversion three years ago. It was nailed down on a 1 1/4" plywood with a layer of asphalt paper in between.

We have not had any problems. The finish stands up and we have no squeeks etc.

We'd do it again.

How about bamboo laminated planks? I have some samples that a flooring company gave me. Sure is harder than oak and the ceramic finish on the stuff is as tough as anything I've seen.

You Might consider Cork,
it is sound absorbant , sort of soft under foot , and has natural goodies in it that keep it from mildewing. And is very easy to care for.

The new cork floors come in tiles and stick down like the old asphaly ones did with a glue and notched trowel.Dark or light colors avil.

Were planning on just doing the center isle , as thats all thats underfoot .

Check a copy of Fine Homebuilding , for a couple of advertisers.

bamboo is one of the toughest floors you can use. I didn't know it came as laminated planks. Most of the pre-finished hardwood flooring has a type of ceramic finish. That's how they give it a 10+ year guarantee. The highest concentrate is put on with the first coat of finish with less and less in the subsequent coats. That way the more the finish wears, the harder the surface is. I know little about Cork but seems like it would be porous.

Thinking of how a wine cork retains the moisture and odor of the liquid it is immersed in makes me imagine it would not make a great floor. But maybe cork flooring is treated differently so that it repels moisture and odors?

I would like a floor that I can roll on office chair on without ruining it. Also want it to be able to withstand sand.

The bamboo sounds really intriguing. Is it expensive?

I also like the vinyl plank idea too.

Had a real cork tile floor in a kitchen and bathroom once. It was soft like vinyl and warm to the touch. However, it was also a pain as it marked easily and had to be scrubbed and recoated with sealer every year.
I am going for the Pergo type flooring. The main reason is that the wife wants it and the interior is her domain. I get to play with the engineering and the exterior, so I am real happy as she has the stove and kitchen sink..... LOL.

I just put more vinyl plank in our Eagle in the walk way at the top of the last step on the access hatch! It matches the kitchen/bath and I layed it on a 45 degree angle. Kind of flows thru with the rest of the coach! Going to install the same vinyl plank on the step treads as you enter! I have it in my home and it is virtually indestructable not to mention classy looking as it looks like real wood flooring! Besides it was free and I had enough to do all I wanted to do and at $125 per box retail of 27 sq feet , I would think I have close to 1K of flooring in my coach!
I would highly recommend it!
