I currently have the 4 speed stick and thinking autoshift. However, I don't like losing the speed and fuel economy of the V730. It is my understanding that overdrive ratio of the VS2-8 is .6:1 which I feel is a little high. According to George Lowery the ratio of the -6 is closer to the original. Does anyone know the ratio and would like comment of VS2 vs V730. Also how well does the VS work with Jakes?

Well, I will take a stab at that one, I have a VS2 and love it.
There are various ratios available in the VS2, be sure you know which you are getting. George is correct on his VS2-6 being closer to original, but it is not rated for the 8 cyl torque or hp (he has had no trouble with that though, and it may be mostly just numbers on pages). The V730 WILL slow you down, it is geared that way in comparison to the stick or VS2. VS2 works great with jakes - until you get down to about 20 mph, then it is free wheel time so far as jakes go, as it shifts back into hydraulic.

I have a V730 and have more speed than I know what to do with. It will go 70 mph on the flat with peddle to spare. MPG = 8 to 9. I asked the same question about a month ago cause I was worried about my V730 going out and thought about replacing with the VS2. G Lowry and others response may be found on Yahoo gmc-busnuts. I will keep the V730. Found one for $1500 if you want the phone #. Joe Shelton 4106-2119

I understand that bulkhead work is required to install a V730 in a 4106. How about a VS2-6?

Thanks, Henry

Henry's comment reminded me of something. . . You might want to pose your question to Luke at US Coach. I may be getting the exact bus and tranny models mixed up, but I seem to remember him saying that he won't do the swap with out totally reinforcing the bulkhead by welding more metal to it.
