Please take a minute to make your voice heard, it only took me 5 to 10 minutes to send 3 canned emails. ======================================== The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association sent the following message to RV clubs and associations asking that it be forwarded to members in California. We are bringing this matter to your attention so you can take whatever steps you feel are proper and necessary. CALIFORNIA ASSEMBLY BILL 1058 IS NOW BEING CONSIDERED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND NEEDS URGENT ACTION NOW! ACTIVATE YOUR CALIFORNIA MEMBERS NOW! California Assembly Bill 1058 is a vague piece of legislation sponsored by the Bluewater Network, an extreme environmental group, that would significantly increase the cost of owning and driving motor vehicles -- including RV tow vehicles and potentially motorhomes. The legislation seeks to curb global warming by reducing greenhouse gases, mainly carbon dioxide, emitted by motor vehicles. Since there is no technology to actually reduce carbon dioxide emissions, the solution would be to legislatively reduce the size of vehicles and/or limit the number of miles driven. Action to defeat this bill is needed now. Please forward the message below to all your members with California residences. For more information on the issue, please visit www.wedrive.org. Thank you for your assistance. California Assembly Bill 1058 would greatly increase the costs of owning and driving RV tow vehicles, and potentially motorhomes, in California. If enacted, the provisions in AB 1058 could: * Add thousands of dollars to the cost of motorhomes, pickup trucks, SUVs, minivans and other vehicles people prefer to drive. * Result in a 50-cent hike in the tax on gasoline. * Lead to a two-cent tax on every mile Californians drive. * Force another reduction in the speed limit. California RVers and motorists would bear the huge costs of AB 1058 even though its regulations would provide no benefit to California. That is why action to stop AB 1058 dead in its tracks is needed right away. Please take action now by contacting your elected Assembly Member and Governor Gray Davis. Dial 1-800-988-2588 and following the directions to register your opposition Or Visit www.wedrive.org for help in sending a message and for more information on AB 1058. Both the 800 number and website offer assistance in identifying your Assembly representative. |

the solution would be to legislatively reduce the size of vehicles and/or limit the number of miles driven. Where do they come up with this stuff? Looks like you all will be condemned to driving Honda Civics. I suppose they will outlaw all commercial truck traffic as well since they probably out number RV's 50:1. Ross |

WELL I thought I was safe when I bought the bus for conversion but now here is yet another strike against the hobby. Does this ever stop? My state wants to test the bus for polution. they want to change the fuel formula for the environment, only the engine will wear out faster, They also want to hang a $10,000 diesel exhaust scrubber to clear the air, HAVE I MISSED SOMETHING? I am at the point that perhaps I should put up a for sale sign and go with motels. Pretty soon it will cost the same or be cheaper than trying to maintain and operate a bus conversion and the bus conversions seems to have all the crooked politicians attention as they make up bills condemning them. I think we joined the club a few years too late - q |

Well, I don't know. My bus is registered in CA. I have yet to receive notice of any fee increases or emmision tests or gadgetry required. I am happily paying my $42 a year in registration and continuing to convert the bus. Scott |

Go to the web site -- it's very easy to send a strongly worded boiler plate letter to the appropriate officials. Takes only a couple of minutes. |

NOT TOO LATE!!! go to http://eletter.wedrive.org/contact_legislator.html to send a strongly worded boiler plate email to the appropriate officials. Takes only a couple of minutes. AB 1058 was amended on 5/1, it stiil has to be approved by the senate, and then the governor needs to sign to become law! get status at http://www.assembly.ca.gov/legcomment/ the Earth Island Institute is WRONG, a bill passing assembly is only step one to making a new law. |

Just some thoughts ??? Don't we also need to consider the people, that put the people in office, that will vote for a law like this ??? One more question ?? how many, who are not satisfied with this new law, voted in their last local election ??? |

I voted, just didn't know the mentality of those I voted for. Heck, I didn't even know my ex-wifes mentality after 22 years. I'll just keep on driving it the way I always do. A fine is probably cheaper than converting to the new laws anyway. Easier to ask for forgiveness than permission anyway. Why worry? Just enjoy it any way it comes. |
