A while back I posted a plea for help. On our 1976 MC-8, the brake lights, fast idle, and the voltage gauge on the dashboard all stopped working at once. When I had the bus running, there would be a clicking noise come from the front junction box and they would all begin to work for a few seconds, then there would be a clicking sound like a relay popping, and they would all go off. I've been trying to figure this out for weeks now, and tracing the circuit. Yesterday I discovered that the stop light relay in the rear junction box was very hot. If I disconected the wires from it, I had fast idle and volt gauge. Today I took it apart, and the inside looks fried. Put it back together, except for putting the cover on the relay to see if it would cool it down, and fired the bus up and everything works perfectly - stop lights, fast idle, volt gauge. Put the cover back on and the problem returns. Apparently the relay is shorting itself out on its cover. You can bet I'll be ordering a new one of these puppies Monday!

Nick,

I'm glad to know you solved your problem. Thanks for sharing that information with the rest of us. It's good to hear how something discussed on this board was resolved; good information for the rest of us if we run into something similar.
