Hi Guys,

Two questions for you. First, what kind of fuel economy can I expect with my DD 8V92 T in my Prevost XL? What kind of fuel economy do 'our' buses typically obtain?

Secondly, have any of you obtained a CFN, Pacific Pride, Flying J cardlock card for 24/7 refueling or is it just better to pay with your credit card? Is there a price advantage to either?

As always, I look forward to the myriad of responses.

5mpg will be about all you can expect, its big , heavy , has huge frontal area , probably carbunkles on top and oversized mirrors and a big engine.

We use flying J RV club card and USAA rebate fuel deal. May not be best , but it works.

If congress or the states will force the oil majors into allowing their dealers to give a cash discount, expect to save 6c to 18c/gal.

I heard recently that Flying J changed their RV discount policy. Now, the discount is based on how much you spend in the store and is applied to fuel purchases the following month. I have not confirmed this at a Flying J. Although we get slightly better, we figure 5 MPG when deciding when to stop for fuel or budgeting fuel cost. Jack

Syd, I have tried the 24hr fuel cards and most of the time it was 2 to 3 cents a gal higher than Flying J if you have a RV card from Flying J they don't charge you a fee for credit card use and no limit at the pump. But they are like Jack described now they want you to eat or buy the overpriced stuff in the C stores.I average 7 to 7.5 MPG but also estimate travel at 5 MPG when you use the generator for long periods of time 5 MPG is a safe number works for me

I think fuel economy is highly dependent on vehicle speed and terrain. The 5 MPG is probably a good estimate for 70 MPH or in mountains. But, I think you could get 5.5-6 at 55 MPH in the flatlands.

Also, the condition of you engine, a good tune up, and a light foot on the throttle will help.

Hello

I use the Flying J Frequent Fueler card instead of the RV card. You get a bankable free shower with the fill, good for a week, which is worth more than the few pennies RV rebate.

Pump enough fuel in a month, and you get Flying J money sent in the mail to spend in the store.

Remembering times gone by when there have been other fuel shortages, it might be wise to have a major cardlock card in your arsenal.

While the scared and angry citizens are plugging up the service stations and pumping them dry, you might be quietly fueling your escape from the area out back of some industrial area with the truckers at the cardlock.

I'm with Jack, use 5 mpg for budgeting and thinking, and then enjoy the surplus.

MC8 8V71 and HT740, 6 mpgUS at 70 mph, 7 mpgUS at 60 mph.

happy coaching!

I have used Pacific Pride for 18 or 20 years and in the end I find my average over a year of being a tad bit less than the pump. Get the card use it every couple of times get your usage bilt up and have fuel if there is a rationing you will have some fuel at least.
Like BW said have a back up, also pride has a large book on their locations.
If you continualy use the cheapest fuel, hunting for cheap you will do better tho. I try to carry about half the cash and use the Pride card the other half.
On trip to Cheyenne WY last month with 4905 and 8V71 non T I tried to run between 55 & s60 mph, got an average of 6.7, Genset is on seperate 50gal tank. Hope this helps 4905 Larry

The interesting (and expected) result of the postings is the hardest working engines seem to deliver the best fuel mileage although the coaches with great mileage also have the lowest frontal area.

In my experience, cardlock cards are great for convenience but not so great in cost.

In general, I found cardlock prices to be greater than posted pump prices if you were using your card out of the area.

I have also found the inline engines get better fuel mileage than the engines that are bent.
