I'd rather not replace the door, but, as with many skoolies, the sealing ability of this one leaves a bit to be desired. With the trusty water hose test, I found this: the top seals reasonably well (a little seepage), the sides also seal pretty well (again, a little seepage), the center (mine is a ThomasBuilt, double-doors folding outwards) is fair-poor (big leak, but not a torrent of water), while the bottom doesn't seal at all (1/2" visible gap). I can seal the center (looks like thousands of children passing by have damaged the gasket), but I'm a little baffled on the bottom. Ideas, other than a new door?

Johnny,
How about cutting a 3/4 inch piece of plywood to fit the bottom step. That way the door would close against it and be pretty weather tight. You could cover it with carpet or rubberr matting.
Just my thoughts.Wouldn't cost much.
Have a good evening and keep up the work on your schoolie.

That's one of the ideas I'm considering--just wondering if anyone here had a better one. :)

I'm also considering foam attatched to the bottom of the door.

Johnny, I don't know if it will fit a conventional or not, but there is a sedan door made for their flat nosed transits. I know, I bought one. I have a Saf-T-Liner. The door is a direct bolt-on, fitting all the orginal bolt holes. If you go to the Matthews Speciality Vehicles web site, you can see it on their vehicles.

Hello
I understand your problem. My '74 Crown front door is so sloppy it lets in mice and snakes at night. Big ones too. I live in SW OR out in the woods. No rattlesnakes yet, thank goodness.

Wasps also. Lots of 'em. I had to stuff tee shirts, rags and towels into the gaps on the top and bottom when I went to bed and when I left for awhile.. Oh well.

Eventually I am going to bolt on an extension of the black rubber matt stuff used as the current seal, thus making the seal all around very much more tight.

Distantly when the step flooring is installed, I will probably have to redo the seals, but for now that is how I will address my problem. Not perfect, but it works. Kinda. Henry
