I am going to be in the market real soon for a slide-out for my generator. Are there any that you really like/dislike? Where's the best deal? |

Ya...someone talk to us slide out shoppers here! I think I want the whole A/C condenser area to move out, and I really think expanded steel grate supported by a 1-1/2 in sq. steel tube frame will give me the kind of ventilation needed, to never give that problem another thought. I need to pour through that stack of FMCA monthlies, I know I've seen ads there for them. |

I have priced them and they are too much $ for me. So I desiged my own and have begun pulling parts together. For the big bay, I'm using garage door track & rollers with low-profile roller supports. I got this hardware for about $60 and will have another $60 in the steel framing. For the battery bay (6 D8 Batteries) I'm considering using roller-blade bearings. I have a drawing of the one using the garage door stuff if you would like copy. Joe |

In solving that problem, I used rollers from a conveyer affair like in a warehouse, but about 6 on each side. Now with a portable extension out the side of the bay, I can roll it out on the extension (the other end is supported on the ground). By flipping down some casters, I can now wheel it to the workbench or wherever I want it to go. Works well, zero cost. I did this for a large self contained diesel genset. |

I found a power slide mechanism from a travel trailer. I think it was a bedroom slide. Actually...I bought 3 of them. They came from Bontragers in MI. The slides are about 5' wide and have about 40" of travel. The plan is to use one as a generator slide and one as a house battery slide. When its done, a DPDT rocker switch will move the genset in and out. Ross |
