Sorry to hear of your troubles, a broken crank is major work/expense. Just a thought for when you get it fixed. I see a lot of posts on the bus boards about folks cranking up the governed speed on their engines... not for me, thank you. Diesel crankshafts suffer a lot from from torsional flexing and overspeed just increases it. Make sure your injector timing and governor are set to factory specs unless the hotrodder wants to pay for any damages.

Just as a counter to catostrophic crank failures...
One night the sprint car we wrenched on was leading 25 of the 30 lap main event, the car started to "lay down" on lap 25 and the driver "carried it" home for a second place finish. He said it felt like he couldn't get full throttle out of it , like the time a roack had wedged itself into the linkage and prevented a fully open throttle.
On monday we tore the motor down looking for the problem as we disassembled it. The crankshaft had broken in the centersection in a double C configuration, thus locking the 2 halves together but causing some serious timing problems for the front half of the motor!

NOW...before you go and sink a lot of hard earned money into a rebuild..take some time and look at motors that are complete and for sale....I have seen 8v-71's rebuilt with zero hours on them sell for under 3grand. You can be sure the woods is full of 6v71's ingreat shape, all you have to do is some internet legwork and have some patience.
Considering the tools you have at your disposal....there has never been a better time in history for you to have lost a motor..(OK OK it was a lame attempt to cheer you up)

Dounanpm -

FYI, there's a fellow named Randy that's got a complete, rebuilt 6-71TA available - it's listed over on the Flea Market section of this board.
