Saw a coach at Foxwoods last week--it was an OLD one (60's, maybe late 50's, judging by the styling), sides were unpainted aluminum, it was a diesel pusher. This is normal, but the mind blower was the tag axle: it was AHEAD of the drive axle! This is the only coach I've seen this way--what was it? |

Ah, Johnny - Where've you been? The Trailways Eagle coach has had the tag axle (also known as a bogie) ahead of the drivers since the introduction of the Model 5 in the late sixties. . . RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |

My 1980 Eagle 10 has a Bogie (ahead of the drive). I do not know when or if Eagle ever changed to a tag axle. Richard |

This is the ONLY one I've ever seen with the tag/bogie ahead of the drives. Reigional thing, maybe? |

Trailways (and others) have run the Eagle coaches all over North America for years. Take a look in the pics section of this site (BNO) to see the Eagles (and others). And for Richard - The original Model 01 Eagles have a tag axle behind the drivers. Eagle moved the tags to the bogie position with the introduction of the Model 05. RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |

I haven't seen a Trailways bus here in years. I'm not sure I've EVER seen one! They're all Pawtuxet Valley, Bonanza (both now owned by Coach USA), Greyhound, Land-Jet, & Peter Pan. |

Johnny - Look here: http://www.busnut.com/busstop/bsh011.html and here: http://www.busnut.com/busstop/bsh021.html and here: http://www.busnut.com/busstop/bsh010.html All of these are Eagles, and note the tag/bogie placement between the Model 01, and the 10/15. You probably have seen these buses numerous times, in different paint schemes, just not really paid attention. . . RJ |

RJ: GM made some, I believe 4905's, with 2 rear axles. Do u know anything of them, were they tag or bogie, etc? Never saw one with the 2nd axle but did see one where it was removed and the rear cargo bay cobbled back in, or at least that is what the guy told me. |

Late Model GM 40 footers had an optional tag located forward of the driver axle and inside the rear baggage compartment. no external wheel well. I beleive that the golden Chariot (4901) 04 on steroids is up that way somewhere? I forget what the axel config is on it, probably similar to the scenicruiser |

If it is located forward of the driver, it is more properly called a bogie for some reason. Richard |
