On the bus I saw that had hub piloted hubs, they were the same od where the wheel rides as the stud piloted hubs. If you check the Alcoa bus wheel specs, the stud piloted id of rims is 11 and1/4 inches or something like that. The hub piloted rims are listed at 225mm or something like that. If you convert the mm's to inches, it comes out to the same measurement. You should only need to change wheel studs and nuts.

Dave, I did my 80 5C. I did not change hubs. The front had 4 cast areas machined to align the wheel. The rear is an alumium hub with a machined area on it, but not wide enough to run 2 alumium wheels. I have almost 300.00 in studs and nuts. Good Luck Tom Y

As far as I know, change out the studs to the proper ones and the hubs will go both ways.

Dave, Not sure what you mean about what the hubs are for? They came with my bus w/stud pilioted wheels. On the rear I have steel on the inside and alumium on the outside.I have two more wheels but did not want to try it. Say the machined surface is 1.25 inches and an alumium wheel is 1 inch thick at the bolt center. This is just an estimate. So I am running steel on the inside. Tom Y

my opinion the cost of changing over the Hub Piloted sytem probably puts you into a wash or cost prohibitive over just buying stud piloted Alcoas to begin with

I'm guessing that you are considering this because used hub piloted wheels may be more readily available.
I looked at this one time and I think a good machine shop should be able to convert hub piloted wheels to stud pilot by slightly enlarging the holes and champhering the stud holes.

I looked at all the dimensions on the Alcoa site and it looks doable to me.

By converting, you also take care of the suspected abuse of the old wheel studs.

Spending money on fresh wheel studs is not a bad thing, considering what might have been done to them over their long service life.

If it helps with the justification.

happy coaching!
