Not sure what size your old tube type wheels were. My Crown had 11 X 20 tube type tires and wheels which were 8.25 X 20. They were updated at some time with 8.25 X 22.5 one piece two hole tubeless disk wheels. Now have 12R X 22.5 18 ply tires which is overkill. Good luck. |

You need either 11 Rx 22.5s or 12 Rx 22.5 I put 12Rx22.5 on mine. They are the same dia as a 1100x20 Tuck |

IF your coach could use an extra few MPH you might consider using 11R24 or 12R 24 for about 3 mph at 1900. FAST FRED |

I had a blowout in the desert (Tonopah, Az and 102 degrees HOT) at 10 pm on a Friday night (left rear inner on a 4905). I spent 5 hours at a Rip Griffin truck stop, they many phone calls, and no 12R22.5 was available, new or used. I had to mount my spare. 11Rs are coming out their ears... go with the 11R, a very slightly smaller load rating and easy to find (much less $$ too!) |

All good points. Yea, on my Crown 10-wheeler, 12R x 22.5 18 ply tires are way too much. Will never even approach the carrying capacity of either the tires or chassis. (7350# and 47,160#) Fred brings up a good point. If your speedo already reads a little fast (mine reads 62 indicated equals 60 actual) and if your wheel wells have the space..... Then 24.5 tires may make some sense. Make sure you can still run chains and turn the front wheels all the way lock to lock without rubbing. If soosss, 11R x 24.5 in the appropriate ply rating may be the way to go. Good luck. |

I know of no coaches that actually need the 12 wide tires to carry the weight , but there probably is some Marble Ballroom style conversion that does. If your coach doesnt have too many tons of improvements the 11s are far better. I understand the prime reason for the 12's was to keep the bus drivers from selling the bus tirers to truckers for a few bucks. The difference in diameters would queer the deal , unless the driver sold a complete axle worth, not just swopped a spair. FAST FRED |

The 12" size vs the 11" size: 12's ride much smoother since they absorb the bumps better. Passenger comfort is very important in the bus industry. Keeps 'em coming back. Goodyear made the best riding tires when they had the 12.75R22.5. They were labeled "intercity coach only" and were worth the few extra bucks. SOOOOO VEEEERRY SMOOOTH they were incredible compared to every other 22.5 tire on the road. Unfortunately, I bought the last 2 in the country and put them on my MCI that I have since sold. They no longer exist. Shame. Jim |

I used 24.5 and geared down a little less top speed but hills are easy to climb |
