Has anyone heard of MCI going into chapter 11? I received two notices from an Attorney notifing me of this hapening soon. I have a parts buying account with them. It seems that they think MCI might owe me some money for some reason.

My understanding is that MCI filed Cpahter 11 (to re-organize) and everyone that has an account of any kind with MCI is required to be notified by MCI. Many of us have received several notices and will probably continue to receive notices until the Chapter 11 filing is finalized. Jack

If you go to MCI's web site they have a letter you can read about this. To put it simple they are in buisness it is operateing buisness as usual during this reorganization and are not going out of buisness. they are just refinancing there debts because of the credit crunch in the U.S. This fileing does not include or have any conection to there Canadian operations. So if you have parts on order they will still come as usual. It is all laid out in the letter on there web site, there are seperate letters for customers and suppliers. Dave L

Yeah... not "going under", just "bobbing around, taking on water".

Kinda' like the Titanic..

Yeah John,
MCI file for bankruptcy protection some time ago -late summer as I recall. It hasn't seemed to affect their operation though, at least regarding their parts division. I've ordered parts since then and received the same prompt and friendly service as always.

I hope MCI is only reorganizing. Our company has three hundred new coaches coming. We have about 40 of them now. We are getting all J models with the z trans an dright now they have cats in them. But I was told cat wants out of the bus power. Who knows.

veering off on a side track:

Cat is leaving the on highway engine market after the 2009 model year.

Not worth it to stay with the vertical integration being forced by ever more stringent emissions forcing large engineering dollars to match up engine and chassis.

Eveyone has their own engines, moving forward, Cat didn't see enough sales to stick around.

Mack/Volvo, International, Daimler/Freightliner/Western Star, the Paccar twins Kenworth/Peterbuilt will all have their own corporate family engines.

And the bus industry just picks a few motors off, volume wise.

Where there's some fun? Prevost is part of the Volvo family...Detroit Diesel is part of Freightliner/Daimler.... Whether you'll be able to get a DD in a Prevost is an ongoing suspicion...

Cummins is left as the only big time independent supplier.

Some argue that this integration should have occurred many years ago, as every truck going down the line has been some form of one-off custom job, driving prices up.

happy coaching!

I know that most Van Hool buses have cummins in them. They seem to be good. I have driven a number of them without a problem. very strong, but fuel is a little lower then dd 60. a mile to mile and quarter difference. Good lugging and pulling power
