I bought a new 12v snowmobile battery 4 years ago as a spare, never used it and until recently put good acid into it and it was still dead. I decided to charge it and after the 2nd day it slowly was taking a little charge but then I accidently turned the charger from a trickle charge to a 55amp boost charge for maybe 3 hrs. I am asking if this battery was done for to begin with or did I kill my battery. I still won't hold a charge even if the charger says it is at 100%. |

You're a MURDERER, (but I won't tell.) Actually it probably died about 2 years ago from neglect. Had you charged it every couple of months, for an hour or so, it would probably still be ok. Sorry, G |

Batteries HATE to be left in a dis-charged state for very long.>>>Dan |

Don't know if you still can but when I used to buy batteries as spares I would buy them dry and add the acid when I needed the battery. Probably To late for your current spare sometimes my equip batteries are juiceless after sitting all winter so I leave the charger on 40 amp for 8 to 10 hrs checking every now and then to make sure I haven't boiled it dry. Sometimes it works and sometimes I buy a new one. Skip |

I was just looking at a battery website and it said that the monthly self discharge rate for a flooded battery is 13% and is 1-3% for gel and agm batteries. |

IF it was dry , not a std wet bat with "extra" acid dumped in, all it needs is a deep cycle charger (Constant amps) and a day or two. These usually have timers on the face. FF |

The average wet cell battery will loose 0ne to two percent of its charge per DAY under normal storage, it dosent take long to ruin a battery.>>>Dan |
