Hi all

Took out my bus (am general 6v71 vh-9)for the first time.

It sure was fun. She ran fine and shifted (one time) great. The two speed stinks.

Second time out i noticed that running up a hill she would slow down. I thought that was strange considering that it ran fine on the maiden voyage and also the fact that it was running on the govenor at 55 mph.

I got itchy and started thinking of ways to get more power out of her.Turbo, big injectors, propane injection, nitro methane.

Well okay i was kidding about the nitro.

What i ended up doing was remove the muffler and run a straight pipe out the top.

I have not driven it yet but it sure does sound out with authority.

These detroit two strokes sound great.

Good thing i put a stack on it as most of the noise goes up and away.

Well after wasting brain power on silly cures i thought rational (190 hp and a two speed = slow)

So i decided to change the fuel filters for good measure even though i changed them and had not driven it yet .

The primary had some ufo's (unidentified floating objects) in it so i suspect that when i take her out again that it will have some power improvement.

Do you think taking out the muffler will increase flow and improve the horsepower and fuel mileage or do the detroits not care?

Sure is good to have her running.

Thanks to all who provide freely their knowledge and experience with us who are just learning or else the hobby would die with you.

Sincerely--Steve Souza in Massachusettes

When I got my 8V92 put in, it did not have a muffler. Just the turbo and a small resonator. Boy did it sound good. Especially going down a mountain with the Jakes on, or along side a freeway wall. Unfortunately it got annoying and I had to get a muffler put on. It has never been the same since! No noticable change in power, but it just does not sound as good.

Steve'
I don't think you will see more power with the muffler removed, just annoy everyone in a 5 mile radius.Better gearing helps, but eventually it come down to-wieght of the bus x slope of the hill x speed=hp. the bigger you make any of those numbers, the bigger the hp.-Donn

Steve,

There is a guy on Ebay selling 6v92ta ddec2's LH for $699 each. Auction ends at Aug-21-02 11:29:31 PDT. From the pictures posted the engines look really clean.

This would be a good HP boost for you!
